Looking for Control Freaks & Worry Warts - Part 4!!!

I've found I do this too. Our very first house was like this. By the time we moved I hated every room because we rushed to get the house decorated. Our second house was much better, and we even had several rooms still not toally decoratted after two years. And in this house, we've been here 2 years in November, and the only rooms left to decorate are the guest room, Ally's bathroom, and our bathroom. They all still have the off white paint and no decor at all. But I'm pleased with how it all has come together by just taking our time.....
<snip>

I'll trade you for a mouthy 8 year old who can't seem to clean her room, brush her teeth, or flush a toilet!!!!

Oh girls, I had to laugh - I've been here 16 years and have done the bathroom and the living/dining room --- kids rooms are 1.... half way painted round - need to move the big heavy bunkbeds to get the rest done, and 2.... still have Winnie the pooh stick arounds on the wall - she's SEVEN!! Our room - well.... if you ever see the walls or carpets - so much cr** stored in our room - then you would know it was done in the nineties - beige/beige/beige....

Oh, and I already have one of those 8 year olds - she has a real skill at standing around daydreaming though!! Must be a phase....

Tessa

OK, Cirque is out-DH really doesn't want to go again. What other activities should we do (that we could not do with kids)?

Forgot to tell y'all - I was supposed to make my ADRs on Saturday but I forgot all about it until like 3pm. Usually I'm on the phone at 7am sharp right at my earliest day.

So I got CRT for dinner but could not get O'hana!!! I'm so bummed out - that's the one Jeff really wanted! So we booked 50's PT instead, as we plan on being at DHS on that day anyway for the lights that night. So really no harm no foul, but I think I'm gonna keep calling anyway this week just to see if there's an early cancellation.

Did y'all see I started a cruise PTR???? I soooo need to lose weight before then. I've seriously GAINED 10 lbs since May. And I think I know why. A) we eat out waaaaaay too often and B) there are too many social activities in the neighborhood that all involve food and alcohol. And I partake. Oh, yes I do!

Tonight is Ladies Night at the cabana bar but I think I'm gonna pass........ I just don't need the extra calories, and you KNOW I'm not gonna go hang with the girls and NOT partake, right?

Lydia - What about the Keys to the Kingdom tour, or the Segway tour at Epcot, or an illumination cruise or dinner at California Grill for the fireworks or ??
Do you think I've been mentally planning our Disney trip w/out our kids someday!! We eat around the world (not big drinkers)!

Kara - welcome to my world!!! We didn't have O'Hana on this last trip and boy we were missing it!! The free dining is killing me!

Tessa - I so hear you about that. My bedroom walls are sky blue with white clouds - can you say princess in lala land! Hey I painted it 15 years ago and it was sweet. Now it's just tacky! I want to paint the walls a caramel and have teal and cranberry accents. I'll need to get a whole new bedding which is what's stopping me. Our bed is maple so I think the teal/cranberry would be nice.

Well if you girls need some decorating done i just happen to know a painter and decorater who would travel for work ;) :lmao:

Erin - did you see the latest on Harry Potter at Universal? Jeff's cousin was in London earlier this month meeting with JK Rowling to put the finishing touches on it. It looks so amazing!!!!! Right now they are saying "spring 2010" to open.....

Tessa, I hear ya. I've lived in this house for 6 yrs, and I'm only getting ready to do some things because the walls need to be painted so badly.

Lydia, I agree with Kara on what to do! :goodvibes Actually, I would schedule dinner at CG to watch the fireworks too - or on Kara's trip with the DISmoms she found that you could eat in the lounge without ADRs. Right, Kara?

Okay, I have an idea - Erin wants to travel and decorate - we could have a "pass Erin around" event! She could travel from house to house to help us with our decorating woes! :rotfl2:

Hhahahahhahaa sounds like a fab idea thanks Tammie ;)

Oh and looove your pics of DL, i went there when i was about 10 and loved it, is Knottsbury farm still nearby?? I have always fancied taking Cj there but its more money flight wise etc

And thankyou for the tip on the Mulan dress, i cannot sew or do anything like that at all though really so that is a problem hahahhhaha, i am just gonna have to keep looking on ebay or hope there is 1 there or 3rd option, hope that her Pocahontas dress we got her last yr in WDW still fits!!

Am off to the pics tonight wooohoo it's not often i get a night off!!

Boy, I had a lot to catch up on!

Tessa - You beat me to the punch to say "Happy Hump Day!". I am sitting hear reading about your weight loss success, while I much on Cheetos and cookies in my lunch. As part of my cost cutting efforts to brown bag it, I have probably picked up a couple of lbs. Uggh. I have also stopped my workouts. Need to pick them back up. What's a tat shop (you mentioned one in Cornwall)? Tattoos?

Tina - You are so creative! My girls still love AG! Even my 16 yr old, that won't admit it to anyone but me and her sis. I guess it's because I love it so much. I am not sure the girls will dress up for Halloween this year. We haven't given it much thought. We may just do a haunted house this year. I am sure that Megan will have her own agenda w/her friends. Although she does a lot w/the family, at 16, she is starting to leave the nest a little bit. It makes me sad! What did you say your girls are going to be??

Kara - Ha! on the kid exchange. I'll give ya 2 for 1! Hee, hee. I'll even throw a hubby in there!:rotfl: We are going to get flu shots. Period. Taylor is resisting, but I don't care. We don't have time to mess w/being sick and missing school (but we do have time to miss 2 days when we go to WDW in Nov!;) Sad...). I know that we can still get sick, but it's worth the effort to me, and we don't get sick from the shots. At least Darrin & I don't. I hope that the girls don't. I don't usually get them flu shots.

Lydia - LUCKY! Sorry about Cirque. I don't have adult ideas, as we have always been w/kids. I do like the kid stuff tho!

Tammie - I love your TR and pics! I need to check out your links at home. You are certainly NOT a sr citizen! Oh, and thanks for the bread pudding recipe! I will probably not make it, but have good itent to! I never made those yummy Oreo balls. Not much from scratch baking/cooking at my house! How does a car give autographs!

Erin - I hope that you find a Mulan costume!! Did you just Google adult Mulan costume, rather than looking on eBay? You can certainly decorate my house. It's awful. Mostly beige walls. Kitchen linoleum needs to be replaced, and so does carpet in bedrooms. We did wood in living area and hall years ago, and I thought it was a PITA! We do like it tho! I don't get excited about painting myself. I like the results, but not the effort. Sad, I know....

Laura - I hope that you guys get better!! Did you say that it is Swine Flu?

Debbie - Cluttter is bad at my house, too. I need a bigger house! One thing I like to brag about is that we don't have a storage unit, and we can park in our garage! A lot of people around here have one and cannot! My house is only 1465sq ft!:scared1:

BabyB - Have another party! Bread doesn't freeze well for me. Can you donate them to a food pantry?

I love cheetos - glad we can't get them over here!!! We get "snack-a-jacks" rice cakes with flavourings on - they are ok for a low-cal savoury hit... I don't do cookies any more (beige food is generally bad for you!!!) - too much temptation!! On a Friday I have a really, really, really dark chocolate bar (85% cocoa solids or more) for a treat - the taste lasts for hours!!!

Taking your own lunch should make it easy to lose weight though. A wrap full of chicken salad, or a bowl of leftovers, pasta or couscous or bean or rice salad , frittata (beaten eggs/potatoes/veg all heated slowly in a pan then sliced) or a flask of scrumptious homemade soup, along with a bowl of fruit and yoghurt - pineapple , peaches and cherries are my favourites right now. mmmmmmmmm. Nothing from a packet allowed!

A tat shop...... - forgot about the language thing...... is a shop where you buy all the sort of junk/rubbish/(i.e. tat) you can get at a small seaside store - buckets and spades, plastic stuff, baskets of shells, postcards, icecreams, lollipops the size of your head, stretchy rubber snakes and tons of stuff they write Cornwall on but you can't see why! - just general holiday junk that kids will beg for till they are blue in the face...

It is so funny to see how many of us have a decorating "blind spot" - we need you Erin!

Thanks for the comments about the pics - thought I had taken more than I did - must have been the heat :rotfl: Yes, Knott's is there. We went a few years ago. It has crazy rides and a fun kiddy area. But it was dirty and there was really poor service - I wondered if they had ever SEEN Disney there?:confused3 Jim has really fond memories of going there as a kid when it was just a couple of rides, a petting zoo, fried chicken and jam.

Thanks Pam! I guess the car didn't do autographs, just pictures - his handler was monitoring the line! :goodvibes

Oh, we call that a souvenir shop. I like "tat" better, but I think it does mean tattoo here! :rotfl2:

Okay, a little about Vegas and Lion King:

Thursday, Aug 27th we met Jim's family for breakfast at 9:30 at Tom's Place, a neighborhood celebrity who started with a greasy hamburger place - (think California surfer dudes in the 70;s) and now has several stores and is very wealthy. Lives down the street from Uncle, and his house looks like an entire small village. Anyway, Tom's is a tradition for us on the way to places in LA.

We headed out for Vegas, a 4 hr. drive usually. Well, this trip my leg had been hurting so bad - with a swollen hot knee - that it was keeping me up all night, and I couldn't sit still for more than half an hour. This day was horrible. There were times I was crying because there was no place to stop. As soon as I got out and walked around, I'd be fine again - for half an hour. If I found a comfy position, I couldn't move at all until it quit or else! :sad2: So our 4 hr trip took about 5 1/2 because I had to stop and walk around at every gas station and rest stop. (there aren't many in the desert)

We pulled in to Vegas - it was 110 degrees! and found our hotel, Palace Station Casino just fine - problem? I meant to book at the Sunset Station - That is the one we checked out before - really nice and deluxe. Palace station was okay, but old. The first people who greeted us at the front desk were short and very unwelcoming and unhelpful. Not a good start. We later found other very pleasant staff members, and the pool area was nice enough - and there was a pool bar. The room was redecorated and very nice except for the smoke that poured in from the A/C. Same problem here, though - I don't know why? :confused3

We had a little time to get a snack and take a nap, so we did that and then got ready for our big night out at LION KING!!!! That's why we came to Vegas!:yay: We headed over to Mandalay Bay and gave the valet the car - felt like quite the movie star! :rotfl: We picked up our show tickets and looked around that beautiful casino for a little while. I promptly fed a slot machine $20 in about 2 min - yay. We walked around and looked at the restaurants and settled on an upscale Mexican place. Let me tell you - other than burgers, everything in this hotel is upscale. We paid $100 for Mexican food and one margarita! :scared1: Water service was even $.50 each! We even had a waiter who just followed our server around and smiled behind her - I guess that's the movie star part:rotfl2:

It was getting close to show time, so we looked around in the Lion King gift shop - here's a sample of what was there:

http://www.playbillstore.com/likigime.html

We showed our tickets and entered the lobby area - I got a Safari Sunrise - fruit juice and tequila and citron vodka - really good! :thumbsup2 I walked around alot to keep my leg movin' - we got our seats and it was almost time to start! Thankfully, I had an aisle seat on the left and I was able to move my leg around without bothering anyone, although I did have considerable pain during the show.

The curtain:

I tried to take pics of the drummers before the show but they didn't turn out. The show was amazing!!!! When it started, the characters came down the steps from the back singing and making their way on stage - all kinds of amazing animal costumes - much like the way they do Nemo at AK in the world.

I was able to snap a couple of non-flash pics before an usher told me to put my camera away - I listened, cuz I didn't want to lose my camera;)

We loved this show and we even got a free souvenir - the playbill! I kind of wish I had bought a pic of us all dressed up, though.

Friday, Jim wanted me to rest my leg, so we ate breakfast in coffe shop, lounged by the pool and had bloody marys until it got too hot - 113 today! We changed and walked over to Macaroni Grill for a late lunch - delicious!

Later that evening, we drove to Henderson to see Jim's uncle on the other side - he and his wife are teachers - it's his second family - they have adorable 6 yr old twins - a boy and a girl! We enjoyed a nice dinner and visit there, and turned in early - we were leaving for Boise at 5am on Sat!

Next: Feelin' no pain! :hippie:

love the vegas pics!

everyone is better now. The fever broke and her temperment has come back in line. I'm hearing that if you get sick that it is pretty much the swine flu. I know that it is good that she gets sick now and not when she is in school but it still is tough, Glad that I am home with them.

anyone see that they are adding a cars land to DL? Looks great. my only thought is how do they have more land? I remember that there was just the parking lot there and that's what they were going to use for cali adventure. how can they cram more in there?

Thanks Pam! I guess the car didn't do autographs, just pictures - his handler was monitoring the line! :goodvibes

I certainly wasn't poking fun at you! I know that Disney can do ANYTHING, and I just wondered how they did it. We've never seen him before. I'm embarassed I cannot remember "his" name! I will read your LV/Lion King TR at lunch. The pictures look great!

One more day until the weekend. Loving this fallish weather. The rain is kind of gloomy, but we do need it! I hope our football game doesn't get rained out again tomorrow night, but I will be keeping dry - chaperoning Tay's first middle school dance!

Have a great day, all!
