First I will say I have had a Canon S2IS for over a year and I loved it!

However it's time to upgrade. I am by NO means looking for something so fancy I can't operate it. My main wants are,

1. More MegaPixels with a decent Zoom
2. Easy to find black and white and sepia settings.
3. Easy to use!

I do plan on spending more time getting to know and use this camera so I want a little more than the S2IS. I was thinking maybe the Canon G10 IS????

My budget is under $400 and I've found the above for $399. However if there is a better one or one that can do the same things for a better price then I would love to hear about it.

Thanks!

looking at your "main wants" why don't you continue with the superzoom type camera, e.g. Canon SX10 or Panasonic FZ28 ? - you get 20x zoom, macro, wide angle, video, etc. I think the main advantage in the G10 is size - it can actually fit in your pocket. The Canons have that 'color accent' feature but if you really want sepia /B&W get a photo software package and you can do a lot more.

I have an S2 and an S3 IS. They are great cameras. I don't know much about the newer ones (because I've since bought a dSLR) but I don't think you can go wrong with the Canon line. Good luck.

dpreview just did a bunch of group tests for the holiday. I know both the Canon G10 and SX10 were in there.

1. MPs are overrated. You already have a 5MP, which is right on the low side of the "sweet spot" of MPs on a p&s camera. I personally would not make an upgrade on that alone and would not go over ~8MP.

The Canons have that 'color accent' feature but if you really want sepia /B&W get a photo software package and you can do a lot more.

2. I second this. You also lose the option of ever going with the color shot if you take it in b&w or any other color option like that. If you have the option of using RAW format, you could do even more.

3. I believe every single camera in the consumer level (i.e. under $3K) has a completely auto mode. If you are talking more ergonomics, then only you can answer this question by actually handling your different choices. What feels good to others might feel horrible to you.

A different way to look at this is to tell us what you feel your current camera is keeping you from doing.

I actually just bought one, the Canon Sx10 IS. I played with one here but found it online for $100 cheaper and I love it! Thanks for the advice everyone!
