I have realized that I can barely push my 5 YO in her stroller anymore. We still use it for things like days at the zoo, and Vacations. It makes things alot easier on me and her. Anyone know of a stroller that is good for heavier/bigger children?

maclaren volo...compact good for disney bus. i have a heavier child and it is a breeze to push.

Thanks I did look at that one online, but it says max weigh is 55 and my DD is 52 right now. But I may try it out at the store and see how it works.

I found an Aprica Presto that holds up to 70lbs, but of course is $200. I'll have to do some research on them and try them out before buying.

I have the same problem. My DD is 5, weighs 55 lbs, and is about 50" tall. She's about the size of a tall, thin 8-9 year old. At this point, I think we're going to have to make her walk. She's just too tall to push around anymore. Good luck with your search, though.

The Disney rental strollers will hold that size with no problem but then you wouldn't have them at the resorts.

We have a MacLaren Volo and a MacLaren Quest for DS3 who is pushing 40lbs and it pushes like a breeze with him in it. I can't imagine another 15lbs would make much difference though since I am sure that we have loaded the stroller down with that much baggage in addition to DS with no problems. All of the MacLarens are extremely lightweight and fold quickly. The company sells their overstocks on ebay so you can usually get a new one that is slightly flawed for next to nothing (we got a new Volo with a slight tinge of red fade on the white mesh of the seat for $55 shipped!).

We were also looking at one of the Baby Jogger City Select - the weight limit on that one is 90 lbs! The $500 price tag has scared us away for now. :scared1:

Our 5 year old is 48 inches and 49 lbs. We still use a stroller at WDW, esp in the evenings. We use our Baby Jogger City Series that I got in 2005/2006. It holds 75 lbs and works great as far as folding, pushing heavy weight and being a sturdy stroller.

However, for her height, it is not very comfortable for her legs ... but no stroller will be. She has to bend them to keep them "in". We paid just under $300 for it back then.

Maybe you can look for one at a local Consignment Sale or Craig's List or Yard Sale?

The Maclaren Volo was terrible for a larger child. We ended up buying the Baby Jogger City Classic (now the City Elite). It is super easy to steer & push, turns on a dime and folds up with one hand. It was a worthwhile investment & you won't regret spending the money once you see how amazing it is to push and fold.

I would not recommend a Mac Volo for any child over 3. My very tall, lean just turned 3 year old is squishy in his Triumph. When I put my kids in a Volo at age 2, it just didn't work - they are lean, so way under the weight limit, but they are tall.

We love our Mac Techno XLR - that is a sweet stroller! Tiger :)

I own a few Macs. Just an FYI, the Triumph's seat is very shallow compared all of the other models. Kids sit much deeper in the Volo and other models.

Didn't find that at all with our kids. The Volo was squishy, just like our Triumph is for our kids. We put our DD in the Quest and Triumph, and didn't see any seat difference for her, same with our son. We got the Triumph as it was cheaper than the Quest, and then a few years later, got the Techno XLR, which both kids love. Our very tall 60lb, DD7 still loves that stroller!

Thanks, Tiger

In June '09 I bought a Maclaren Volo for my ds4 (who was rather tall and not all that slim). This stroller was suggested to me by posters on this board. It worked out great for us!! The absolute only problem we had was that it didn't recline, but we loved how it was lightweight and easy to handle.

Doesn't seem to be big in the states, but we use a wagon up here in Canada for day trips to zoo etc for our kids last summer (5 and 2 at the time).

Thanks for the suggestions. My DD is 52 lbs and al lthe Maclarens seem to not go higher than 55lbs. I did try some out at Babiesrus last night. The Volvo was probably our favorite. It turned nicely and I could push her easily. But I worry since she is close to the weight limit and I want it to last at least a couple years yet. Also the storage spot...whats up with that? how do you get a bag in it? not from the back for sure...and it is just sooooo small. I'm still gonna keep looking at this point. I found one online...the Aprica Presto, but can't find amny reviews since it is brand new. But it hold up to 70lbs. The thing is our store doesn't have it in stock yet, so I can't test drive it, which worries me. And it's $200, where I can get a Volvo for just over $100.

Also the suggestion for renting at Disney really isn't an option for me. I want something I can use at home. :goodvibes Plus with the price at Disney I could have one bought for that amount of money.

We have the Joovy Ultralight Sit and Stand stroller and use it for our daughters who are 8 (weighs 60 pounds) and 5 (weighs 30 pounds)...it is a smooth ride and turns very nicely. It was a great investment!

My Baby Jogger City Mini still pushes nicely with my 52lb 5 year old in it. I forget what the stated weight limit is, but he's perfectly fine in it and it has nice storage and folds like a dream, too.

Well, I don't know how tall your daughter is, but instead of a maclaren, you might want to try a Mountain Buggy or a Baby Jogger. Both of them are bigger strollers, but the MB has a weight limit of 77 lbs, and the Baby Jogger is about the same.

I have a Mountain Buggy urban single. It's not as small as a maclaren (which I also have too ;) ) but it sounds like it would fit the bill. They are about $500 new, but you can scan ebay and craigslist and get one that is used for way less. Also, Baby Joggers with the swivel wheel would be a good fit.

Both the MB and BJ would have bigger baskets and larger canopies too. I know both my 6 year old and my 8 year old would still fit in the MB. I had a double MB that I just sold and the kids sat in it one last time before I sold it. :lmao:

Sorry, at age 5, I would be ditching the stroller entirely, and having the child walk. Certainly, I wouldn't be looking to spend a couple hundred dollars on one to last a few more years!

What we found helpful was to do "Disney conditioning" for a few months prior to vacation. We took our kids on walks--we went to the local HS and did the track. My younger DD could walk 3 miles when she was 3yo. Obviously, we worked up to that, but it was very easy. And at 3, she still used a stroller for Epcot (but nothing else).

We go to WDW again next summer, and our youngest will be 5. We are looking forward to having a stroller-free trip. It's amazing how much time, money, and space they take up!

You are seriously NOT doing your child any favors by pushing her around all day. Frankly, I'm stunned that you don't already encourage walking. No kindergartener I know wants to ride in a stroller--they're for babies.

WOW!!!

Guess we look at it like there are times we are in the parks from 9am till midnight, that is a LOT of walking for little ones (even with conditioning)...so we have the stroller for when they need a little bit of a rest.

To each their own.

I agree. :thumbsup2

Our very first trip, DD has just turned 5 the month before, and taking a stroller never even crossed my mind. :confused3
