Looking for a new everyday dishware set

We have had our Pfaltzgraff dishes for going on 16 years now and I hate them. They get SO HOT when you put them in the microwave and I am looking for some new stuff.

Can anyone recommend a good everyday dishware set to me? I am not so concerned about cost, but more about something that is not going to get hot in the microwave and will last a long time.

Seems like most of my dishware will get hot when used in the microwave - could be just heat transfer from the foods, as they are microwave safe and recommended.

But, my absolute favorite everyday dinnerware is Fiesta ware. It is not cheap, but I've added over the years and have mixed and matched the colors. It has such vibrant colors that it makes me happy to use them. They are very durable also.

Correlle. Lightweight, doesn't take a lot of cabinet space and lasts forever. Have my grandmother's gold rimmed 1970s pattern for ds when he moves to an apartment next year. Have a set Dh and I have had for 15 years.

I also have a set of fiestaware that I like for looks, but it's heavy and we automatically reach for the corelle, instead.

I use Corelle. It's light and you can abuse the crap out of it and it still keeps keepin on. I use it in the microwave all the time and am always able to handle it when it comes out. I do tend to grab by the edges and will slide it onto a hot pad if it's a lot of something but I do that with anything I put in the microwave.

I hate when the dishes get hot instead of or more than the food! Drives me crazy... especially when I make rice in there!
My China dishes get too hot so I wouldn't recommend at all.
And our "outdoor" set is not Micro Safe so I have a lose lose scenario.

Another vote for Corelle! We had Pfaltzgraff for years but they broke/chipped pretty easily and were heavier. Corelle is lighter, less likely to break, and it doesn't get hot in the microwave. Have fun picking out a new set!

I am a big fan of Corelle too. They are light and do not take up much room.

Corelle for me too! I do tend to just hold the plates by the edges out of the microwave.

Only Corelle in this house too. There are so many pretty patterns now that I want to replace my 15 year old set, but hate to, since I haven't lost/broken any pieces since we got it!

Fiestaware. Made in the USA and tons of fun colors to choose.

We have Fiestaware as well - made in the US, lots of fun colors, and very durable. We also looked at Corelle but some of it is made in China.

I've had my Corelle set forever also - maybe 20 years? Mine gets hot in the microwave. My daughter broke our first plate about a month ago. She dropped it on our tile floor and it shattered into a million pieces. Not too bad for a set so old. Fiestaware that I've seen is so heavy but they are nice looking. I also have a Pfaltzgraff set that I got at my bridal shower so its even older than my Corelle. But it is so heavy we never use it (keeping it for sentimental reasons as my Aunt died not long after giving it to me).

Another vote for Fiestaware. Love it. Love the colors, and love that when you break a bowl, you can just go get one other bowl of whatever color you want instead of worrying about matching the set exactly. (Or, say, your kids are constantly fighting over the blue plate... fine. Just go buy one more blue plate to save your sanity)
I've never noticed that they are unusually hot after use in the microwave.

I decided I was done with the lead that leaks out of dishes into your food when you heat in the microwave. After doing a massive amount of research Fiestaware rose above the rest as being lead-free. It's made in the USA and I have found using ebates, coupons and sales at macy's and kohl's, I can get a five piece place setting for about $23 or even better. The prices are GREAT at their outlet stores. I don't mix and match but do a turquoise plate in summer or a crimson plate in the fall.

I've been using them for 3 years, heavily, and not one chip. They do great in the microwave.

I got these for Christmas and love them! They're Mikasa and Macy's and Bed Bath and Beyond have them and all the additional pieces.

I don't microwave in my dishes. I use my Pyrex/Anchor glass, microwavable plasticware or just paper plates.
One could also have some pieces of something like Corelle French White which could be used to put larger amounts of leftovers in. And, would be microwavable.

Anyhow, last time I bought dishes, we picked out a design by Denby.
I am not happy with the quality of the Denby dishes.
Can't recommend Denby at all.

I have Corelle. I too prefer the lighter weight, like its durability, and use it in the microwave all the time.

FWIW, the majority of Corelle is American-made. (Not by the original company but still manufactured in Corning, NY.) The exception is their line of stoneware made in China, as well as the stoneware mugs and drinking glasses that come with some of their dinnerware sets. Best bet is to buy open stock dishes and bowls that are made from the original material called vitrelle and stamped "made in USA."

I never microwave anything plastic. It goes on a paper plate or my Fiestaware only.

Another vote for Fiestaware!

We mix & match w/ 2 sets of each color. We currently have 14 place settings (7 different colors), & seeing all the colors in the cabinet makes me happy!
