Yes, I know this is a bit off topic. It's not a trip to Disney. But, I am going to Greece in April and want to ensure I capture our moments properly. I currently own a Canon 30D with kit lens and a Canon EF 70-300mm IS.

Which lens do you suggest I purchase to capture the countryside, local villages and people of Greece?

I assume the kit lens would not be your choice and am looking for a replacement that would fit the situations above. The local dealer pointed me to a Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8mm Macro EX lens, but the reviews I have seen do not seem to find it a capable lens due to its focus hunting problem. This looks like the right lens, but I would appreciate any input on it you may have, also.

Take a look at the Tamron 17-50 f/2.8. There's another thread about this one as Jann was also looking at possibly getting one. I've seen some very good reviews of it. Also you could look at the Sigma 10-20mm to compliment your kit lens. There was a thread on another board I frequent about someone asking about a lens for traveling around Europe and a number of posters said the rarely used a lens that was longer than 70mm due to all the buildings and landscaping and interiors. The 2.8 on the 17-50 would definately come in handy for interior shots, but the 10-20mm would make for dramatic landscape and building shots. Tough call. But its one I would like to be making considering the beauty of Greece and the possibilities of photo taking. I'm jealous.
