I was in a similar predictiment. I did first have a Kodak 4800 that I paid $500 for back in 2001. It was only a 3.1 but fast shutter, eye lens, great blowups. Fab pro looking pictures.
Then in Oct 06 I did not want to repair it again and bought my Olympus, small point and shoot, compact. I was never happy with it so I went on a hunt. I did want something simlar to my Kodak. So I read and compared prices.
I got great information to compare cameras at Kodak.com and then the gal at
Best Buy was wonderful to assist in old modles and new ones coming out and comparisons.
I looked at the Kodak Z715 at Staples with a kit for $199. Went into the Best buy and the gal pointed out that model was the old one, the new one was the Z815, online I had seen it at $279, marked to $249, extra 10% off, and SD card.
THe BEst Buy was 20% off the $249. about $50 off, I had a SD card already. and also bought off Ebay a rechargable battery and charger for about $30.
So for under $250 I have a top camera, quality and lighter the then old Kodak 4800 as it is plastic case not the heavy metal one. Pro and con to that. I did real a lot of information on it and suggestions like Setting for best flash, the use of settings, faast pic's. video capability, adapter to TV, HD ready.
You can crop on the camera. It does not charge in the camera, the charger is seperate. BUT when I took pictures at Disney with the Olympus, I waas heart sick to have missed pictures from the long delay, and also tons of out of focus as the settings were crappy.
Many were the last pictures of my oldest daughter sitting with Pooh and her siblings in DTD. Happy smiles in blurred photos.......
So this time I took several days, considered pricing and options. I took pictures of flowers the day I bought it and WOW! the ISo has great low light picturqulity, the smart card for special bright colors, the stability of long shoots and clarity is fantastic.
As it is being upgraded I guess to a Z915 the 20% deals are out there, The Z715 is the same price in many places so be careful if looking that that is a few years older....I would feel comfortable comparing the pictures from this camera to the ones on my photopass any day!
Happy looking, but do get a view finder!
