I have never made corn chowder but a friend was telling me she had it over the weekend at a bed and breakfast and it was great. I did find a ham and corn chowder in my Southern Living book but thought I'd ask and see if anyone here has a good recipe they'd share.

Thanks!!

I'm looking for my Chicken Corn Chowder/Soup recipe, but can't find it right now. It's similar to these, but w/o the tomatoes. I'll keep looking.

Corn Chowder
PA Dutch recipe from the Mennonite Community Cookbook.

4 slices bacon
1 Tbl celery, minced
1 Tbl green pepper, minced
1 Tbl onion, minced
2 potatoes, diced
1 c water
3 tomatoes
2 c corn
2 pints milk
Salt & pepper

Chop bacon & place in pan to brown with celery, pepper & onion. Fry together until bacon is brown. Add corn & satue together for 3 min. Add water & chopped veggies, including potatoes. Cover & cook slowly for 30 min. Add rich milk & heat to boiling again. Add parsley & serve. Serves 4.

These 2 are from an old book that has lost its cover. It belonged to my grandmother, who was PA Dutch through & through.

Corn Chowder
3 slices salt pork
1 large onion, sliced
4 large potatoes, sliced
2 c water
6 large soda crackers soaked in 1 c milk
2 c corn
1 tsp salt
1/4 tsp paprika

Cut the salt pork into cubes & brown. Add onion & cook until browned; add potatoes & water; cook until tender. When potatoes are soft, stir in corn, salt, paprika & the crackers soaked in milk. Heat through & serve.

It figures! I no sooner hit Submit when I remembered where it was. ;) It was in a pamphlet called "Goschenhoppen Historians Folk Festival Recipes." The ladies usually cook this over a wood fire & serve at this annual festival...good stuff~

Chicken Corn Soup
"Cook chicken or chicken parts in water to cover until tender - bone chicken and reserve broth. Fry 1/4 lb bacon, cut in small pieces. Add: 1 diced onion, 2 stalks celery cut in small pieces, 2 cans creamed corn, salt & pepper, 1 c narrow noodles, 1 c milk. Simmer until celery, onions and noodles are tender."

This is a recipe my mother used to make and was passed down to me and I passed it down to my children. It's a basic corn chowder recipe but it uses creamed corn and I think that's what makes it different

2 slices bacon
1/2 cup onions
3/4 cup celery
1 cup potatoes
2 tsp. salt
1/8 tsp pepper
1/8 tsp thyme
2 - 3 tbls flour
2 cups milk
1 can cream style corn
1 tbls parsley

Cut up bacon and add onion, celery and potato and brown. Add seasoning and 1/2 cup water. Cover and let simmer about 5 - 10 minutes until vegetables are tender. Mix flour with milk and add to vegetables. Stir to boiling point and add creamed corn and parlsey. Warm on low heat until hot.

Makes a great chowder. Hope you like it.

Thanks, I knew I was coming to the right place!! I'll be in the kitchen trying these out Saturday! The yeast rolls are rising now.

I use the same recipe as Dopey & Grumpy does, but without the Thyme! :)

Thanks for posting all these recipes though, I am going to experiment the next time I make this!! :)

You're very welcome. I'm glad you enjoyed it. It's one of my favorite recipes to make on those cold winter evenings :D
