Looking for a Catholic Church near WDW

ILPHIL - I did not go to Mary Queen of the Universe, but my dh was very dissatified with it. He would not go into details, but told me ie was VERY money oriented. Beautiful, but.... I'm guessing he'd be right there with you.

FYI -- The folks at Holy Family are the ones who created Mary, Queen of the Universe Shrine. That was Father (now Msgr.) Harte's original church when he started saying masses in the hotel ballrooms for the visitors. The parishoners helped get the Shrine started and still help out with the Shrine (they were also the ones at the Poly). It's not a parish -- it has no funding except for donations. Some people have mentioned they don't like the appeals but they really are necessary. Lots of folks block out exactly how things get paid for and depend on the "other guy". I know a church in NYC that sees a big rush of business folks for Holy Day masses has also added a "reminder" that it wasn't free to run the church and that a $1 doesn't buy much today. ;)

Sounds like people at my parish on these boards, they think dropping in $2 or $3 a week is enough. We are just about out of savings at our parish because people do not want to do their share. The shrine is beautiful but needs donations from visitors to keep going.

Trust me, we're not $2 - $3 per week people. It saddens me to see how little people give at times. Both me and my dh know that churches need money to keep going. Please don't assume that we're cheap because there was something about the money factor that didn't seem right.

I too take exception to the $2 - 3 a week people comment. We give substantially more than that. Living in a resort area and belonging to a parish that gets a huge influx of visitors in the summer (while collections actually go down) I understand how valuable a church for travelers is.
BUT, I have serious reservations about the appropriateness of pitching for $$ for 10 minutes before Mass, during the bulk of the homily, AND again for another 10 minutes just before the Final Blessing.

If that makes me a cheapskate in some people's eyes...oh well.
