The home resort rules state that a resesrvation can be made no earlier than 11 months prior to the check in day, plus up to seven consecutive days after the deired check in day. Has anyone ever had a stay longer than 7 days which MS would book at the 11 month mark (say 8 to 10 days)? It seems like there are quite a few DVC'ers on these boards who stay longer than 7 days.

We have to fly, so we often like to stay 8-10 days to maximize our expenses, and it would be nice if that were extended a little. For the busier times of year, it would be ideal to call and get the whole trip on the books, rather than just the first 7 days and then have to call daily to add on the other days.

It is probably not even an issue, since we own at AKV and we probably can get what we want most times of the year, other than Christmas and Easter, or a 10 day stay in concierge, but I was just curious. :scratchin

If you call at exactly 11 or 7 months based on your check-in date, MS can only reserve 7 nights.

If you want a longer stay, you could either (a) book 7 nights and call back daily to extend by one night or (b) wait and call MS once you can book all nights on one call.

If someone owns 2 different contracts (ie with different uy) at the same resort, could that person book 7 consecutive days for each contract (ie upto 14 days consecutively) at the 11 month window?

No, they could call and book 7 days right at 11 months, then call a few days later to extend the reservation.

Right at the 11 month mark, you could book concurrent reservations, but not consecutive reservations.

Not clear on Q but process is this: at exactly 11 months out you can use one of those contracts to book 7 nights; you have to wait until a week later to book the other 7 nights with the second contract (for which you will be booking those additonal 7 nights exactly 11 months out with the second contract; and then you link the reservations to make them one.

If you call on February 1 for January 1 of the following year, MS will only be able to book the nights of January 1 to 7, they cannot book January 8 or after. On February 2, it will allow them to book January 8, February 3 will allow January 9, etc.

When we made our 13 night reservation for next month, we reserved the first 7 nights at the 11 month mark, and then we called daily to add an extra day until we were booked for the entrie 13. We were reserving an AKV value 2br so, I wanted to be sure to stay on top of it since there are so few of them.

Yep, this is the way it works. It can be quite a pain. I was misinformed by MS and ended up having to wait extra time only to lose the days because someone booked before me

Oh i see where i have misunderstood. so it doesn't matter if you have one or two contracts. At 11 months to my "check in date #1" i can make my first 7 day reservation, but then I would have to wait exactly 1 more week in order to reach exactly 11 months from my "check in date #2" to book my next 7 days.

No, that isn't correct. If you have only one contract, you can call each day after your 11 month window and keep adding a day. If you have 2 contracts, just transfer the amount of points you need from one contract to the other and you can still do it this way without waiting another week.

Oh.... so it is more advantageous to have one contract vs multiple when trying to get booking priority for >7days of vacation.

I don't know that I would say more advantageous, but maybe just easier. Like I said, you can transfer points from one contract to another to have access to them.

You still cannot book more than 7 nights ahead at the booking window, no matter how many contracts you have.

Technically, you can only transfer once in or out per UY. So if you have three contracts (meaning different prefix numbers - 12345.001, 23456.001, 34567.001). So you can't transfer all of the points into one UY. If you have a different contract, you can't combine them for a single night. So you have different reservations (they can be linked, but they are still separate reservations).

The 7 night rule at 7 and 11 months has nothing to do with how many contracts someone has - if i have understood the question. It is solely a function of the date (not 7 nights per contract).

When we booked our last long trip (it was 14 days) we had to call MS every day after we booked the initial 7 day portion to extend it out to the next day. It was sort of a pain, but the trip was really amazing! Happy planning!

Actually, you should not have to call daily, as your room can not go back into bookable inventory until 11 months from your check-out day.

In other words, say there are 3 studios available to book. A member calls on Feb 1, and books studio "A" for January 1 to 8, Another member calls on Feb 2 and books studio "B" for January 2 to 9, and another calls on Feb 3 and books studio "C" for January 3 to 10. No other member can book any of those studios until Feb 8 for Jan 8. No studio would be available to book a new reservation until the 11 month window for studio "A" opens on Feb 8.

But the first member could call on January 7 and extend his existing studio "A" reservation to January 14.

This would only work as a guarantee exactly at the 11 month booking window.

That's what we did for our AKV CL reservation. We have 15 nights, so I booked the first 7 at the 11 month mark then called back every single day to add one more night until we had the whole 15 night stay.

I appreciate everyone's input on this issue. It sounds like MS is consistent with the 7 day rule. We are planning an 8-night vacation some time next summer and want to try to get an AKV concierge 2BR for a 3-4 days of the trip. We are arriving on a Friday. I would like to get them either the first 3-4 days of the or the end of the trip to avoid changing rooms more than once. I guess with the 7-day rule, I'll try for the front end first.
