Longer Stay = MORE Resort Availability???

When I'm searching for rooms on the WDW website, I don't understand why when I change my length of stay to include a few more days, MORE available resort options appear? Why wouldn't those same resorts be available in the shorter timeframe if they are already available on those same days as part of a longer stay?

For example, if I put in 10/25-10/29 under the AP Discount, Saratoga Springs doesn't appear, but if I extend to 10/30, it appears. If I extend to 11/1, POR appears. Same start date of 10/25.

It also happens if I search for Room Only with no discounts. GF and BWV pop up if I extend my end date from 10/29 to 10/31.

Has this already been discussed before? Is this a known thing? Am I missing something? Just doesn't make sense to me.

Yes, it is a known thing. Disney will often only book some rooms as part of a longer stay. It is to prevent "orphan rooms" and will keep more rooms occupied. Apparently it is part of some kind of algorithm.

Worse for us, better for their bottom line.

If you book the longer stay and ask for guest services to intervene, SOMETIMES they will shorten the stay for you (they can override the system), but sometimes not.

Or you can just try calling up front to see if they will book it for you at the outset.

Good luck!

Thanks. I had no idea. Now I just feel silly, lol.

I was thinking of calling. I already have a room booked, but I am always fishing to see if something better pops up. I had started to wonder if you could book a longer stay and shorten it, and you also answered that.

You can contact guest services...make sure you ask for guest services. The normal phone CMs usually can't override the computer system. Guest services can. Also, if you get one CM who won't help you, call again. Although, my experience, guest services is usually pretty good. And if you are talking October this year, they should be more interested in just getting that room filled and not about length of stay.
