longer at a value resort or shorter at deluxe

I'd vote for shorter at a deluxe. The schlep factor of the values just kills the vacation feel for me. I certainly don't live in luxurious conditions so vacationing in them makes it all the better for me:thumbsup2 .

Also, I have come to find as I get older that bed comfort is a key factor in my overall vacation happiness. If I am not sleeping well, I won't have fun - it's as simple as that. I love my super comfy bed, and it makes me happy to go back to it after a long day at the park. So, I would much rather go deluxe for 4 or 5 days than value for 6 or 7.

If you are not as into the disney experience as your DW is, then I would say all the more reason to go deluxe. At least you'll have a lot of comfort and amenities to make your stay happier. Good luck in deciding!

As a mother of two young children, we are taking our first trip to WDW this year and I chose deluxe resorts because my kids do not have the stamina for a full day at the park and we will spend a considerable amount of time in our room. Now, if my children were older, I would certainly consider saving some money on lodging which we could spend at the parks! I think even if you were camping, it's hard not to have a fun time at Disney!

Have a great trip!

How often do you go? If you go every year, then go for the shorter stay at a deluxe or moderate resort.

I probably won't stay at a value resort again for the following reasons:

1. No towel service at the pools (with 4 kids, that's a lot of towels to pack and then lug around).

2. No slides at the pools-big disapointment for my older 2 kids.

3. There is only one bus stop per resort.

4. The que for the bus is not covered.

5. The food courts are noisy.

6. The rooms are not as nice. The theming is too tacky for me.

You can stay at Port Orleans (one of our favorites) for just a little bit more than a value, and you get so much more. Oh well, that's just my opinion. I'm sure you'll have a great time no matter where you stay.

Susan

I agree !!:thumbsup2

Moderate for longer-I really think when you look at the price difference and what is included Moderates are a good value over Value Resorts. It may be 40-50 more a night but you get a ref. at no charge (10.99) a night at the value and also a coffee maker in your room which is not an option at the values. POFQ is very compact and bus service prompt and covered while waiting. Food court quick and easy to get in and out of. We are tight with our money. Also with the Ref. you can store cold drinks and get coffee at no charge in the morinings which is a savings along with being able to store milk for b'fast and Children. Now I do think the Deluxes are to expensive unless you can get a code or good promotion. Have Fun either way.

Well, first let me say that although you're "not a fan" you are very sweet to go to WDW anyway to make your family happy! :)

As for your question, I'd have to say that it really depends on how you plan to spend your time. If you're going to be in the parks most of the time and want to do as many rides, shows, and activities as you can, a longer stay at a value will allow you to tour less frantically, since you won't have to try to squeeze everything in. OTOH, if you plan to spend a fair amount of time in your room, you may want to opt for the larger rooms that a deluxe provides.

Personally, we're not there for the rooms, we're there to be in the parks as much as possible with our kids. If we were in the room during the day, it was only for a nap. So for us POP was great.

I vote shorter at Deluxe. The Polynesian is just our favorite. Look forward to hearing where you have decided to stay.

DW says we aren't in the room enough to justify the cost of a deluxe. (DW is a park commando and would be there from open to close if she could:sad2: ) but it wears me out :headache:. I would prefer the Poly for the ease of transportation especially with pre-schoolers ( we will be there in July) but DW thinks that it wouldn't feel like a vacation if we were only there 3 or 4 days.

I had no complaints on the quality of the rooms at the value when we went, but Orlando in July, hiking to the uncovered bus stop and standing in the line with preschoolers is more than I could take.

Looks like it might be back to POR riverside for the slightly improved transportation and parking and somewhat quieter feel while still letting DW feel like she had a vacation.:confused3 Marriage is all about compromise after all isn't it

I say go for the Mods.... I don't care for the values as much.. it seems so loud with kids running around all night long... Don't get me wrong.. we have stayed several times at Values.. but from now on we will stay in the Mods.....

All for longer at the value, but we have our own car and own coffee maker! Takes ALOT of hassle out of a value! We don't tend to go to the food court in the morning, as it can be nightmare!

I cannot justify the cost of a deluxe no matter what! We enjoy time in our room and at the pools and value is just fine for us!

You sound just like us.

Where we stay isn't as big a deal for me as it is DH. He is a iffy fan and any liking he has for WDW goes right out the window if he isn't happy with the resort, crowds, heat or noise. Sadly, if he's unhappy I just can't enjoy myself either even if what's bugging him means nothing to me. So we compromise with a few non park days for him to enjoy a nice resort & he comes along for yet another round of the Magic Kingdom for us. As a result our vacations usually end up costing way more because of him but at least he has a nice time... We ALL have a nice time.

A long time ago we were debating the same thing you are now. We compromised and decided to go moderate for 7 nights. We would LOVE to stay deluxe, but can't justify that price and we could only afford to stay 4 nights the most. We also chose to go when our kids are 4 and 6 and can handle walking a little bit more. We will still get a stroller in the parks and then hopefully they can walk to the bus stop.

We decided on POFQ for the nice kid themed pool and slide. I like the fact that we can take the bus or walk to POR if we wanted and take the boat to DTD on our day off from the parks. A little more wiggle room.

My DH is not a huge fan of the mouse either, so he's sacrificing for the rest of the family. He wanted to stay at the POLY for his convenience, but I told him we could take a nicer vacation in Hawaii in 3 years. That's where we stay more at the resort anyway and need the amenities that a top resort provides.

Have fun planning.

From your signature, I see that you've been there several times in the past few years, staying at values and a moderate. Normally I would vote for longer at a value - we love Pop! But, since this isn't your first trip, and you went the value route a few times, I think it is nice to try different resorts. I like the suggestion of a split stay - that way you can stay longer, but still try out the deluxe accomodations. When we stayed at BWV after only having stayed at Pop, it was so different. While it's true, we didn't spend a whole lot of time in the hotel, it was still nice having a short walk back to our hotel, beautiful decorations (it was in Dec), nice pool, etc. Depending on what kind of trip we want to take, we will choose our hotel accordingly. For our upcoming trip (Easter week), we envision spending a considerable amount of time at the hotel due to larger crowds at the parks, so we chose SSR. If free dining comes out and we want to do a budget trip in August, we'll probably go back to Pop. Good luck with your decision!
