Okay, this is so corny, but we have a betta fish who is about 3 years old. I never thought he'd live this long but I take really good care of him.
DD got him (he replaced our first betta that lived only 6 weeks) when she was 6.
Background: he lives in a 2.5 gallon tank with rocks and marbles, I do a complete water change every week. he is situated on the half wall between our kitchen and family room so he has lots of interaction with us...he's got the life!
anyway, we've gone away before and left him with a betta block that feeds him up to 10 days. he's always been fine. I change his water right before we leave and first thing when we get back. But the last time we went somewhere (earlier this summer) he didn't do so well, a bit of fin rot and he just seemed like he missed us. I would HATE to come home to a floater because we left him alone, but I don't really have anyone to fish sit. Plus, i would feel bad if he did die while in someone else's care(don't want them to feel bad about it) he is old for a betta, after all!
I don't know what kind of advice I am looking for but there must be someone else out there who's been in this situation before...
