Long threads will be hidden for 24 hours

We need to evaluate the effect the "long threads" are having on board performance. In order to do that we will be "hiding" the long threads for 24 hours. They will come back so no need to panic
I will be shutting the boards down around 11pm to move the threads around and make some other changes.
If you are a participant in one of these threads please feel free to start another thread tomorrow.
A long thread will be over 10,000 posts for the purpose of this experiment

You've probably been through all this already, but have you considered restrictions to some of the "extras", like photos totally unrelated to the post? While I enjoy seeing other families, when I'm on my slow dialup at home, there is definitely an impact to the speed.

I don't mind the photos the first time, but then some posters will "quote" a series of hi resolution photos. At the end of this repeat display of the pictures they type "GREAT PICS". Does anybody need to "quote" pictures?

I have seen that and can't see anything wrong in it.
They are mostly complements on the pics and yes I am one of those that put GREAT PICS .

Downloading pictures takes up server time and displaying them takes your computer time. There is certainly nothing wrong with complimenting the pictures. But quoting them and have them display second time in your reply takes up resources.
