Long Term Parking at Newark Airport

Anyone have any tips? I've never done this before.

Bring lots of money!!! A friend of mine told me it was $20 per day for long-term parking in the parking decks - if you wanted the open economy lots off in the far corners (in my opinion, not nearly as safe - especially in Newark, the car-theft capital of the country).

In the end, for our 8 day trip last month, it was actually cheaper for us to get a cab round-trip than to park at the airport.

Don't write off the airport's economy parking. It's $10/day in a gated, security-patrolled lot, and the shuttle bus to/from the terminals runs every 10 minutes or so. I use it regularly (am leaving my car there this sunday for 6 days) and have never had a problem.

Well it looks like I have two options since I don't want to take a cab.

I'm glad to hear that you never had a problem there. I have 2 co-workers who have had their cars broken into in the economy lots - 2 different times of year, both had stolen stereo systems, stolen CDs, and broken windows. Nobody at the lot saw anything.

I guess thefts can happens to anyone. I personally won't take the chance. For $35 each way for 2 with bags, I'll stick with my cab.

Would any of the park and ride hotels be safer? I am looking into Newark parking also. I guess I'll bring my old car and take out anything valuable.

try one of the off site lots. I have used avistar, they were very good, check on the web site for coupons and AAA discounts

We never park at Newark any longer. it is only a little more to take a car service from home (NE bergen cty). and right to the terminal. No shuttles, worries about break-ins,etc. Also once after returning from FL, after taking the shuttle and sloughing through the snow to our car, found that we were plowed in and buried. Not fun after a nice sunny vacation to have to dig out from 18 inches of snow at 10PM

we leave tuesday-I looked into the lt parking but decided on a taxi-wil cost me about $20 more with tip-I decided that being dropped of at the terminal was worth it-it is pretty easy to get a taxi on the way home to. we live about 15 minutes from the airport.
