This photo is from atdisneyagain.com. I hope he doesn't mind me stealing it and giving him credit.

These new long range sensors are at the new Downtown Disney/Disney Springs Main Street Coop. The sensors will read the Magic Band on your wrist and allow Disney to know where you're at. Expect to see these little receivers all over.

Kind of creepy to me.

I suspect that there's already quite a few of these in place around WDW, just better disguised so they aren't as obvious.

Do many people wear their MBs to DTD? I guess if you use it to pay and stuff, I suppose.

Okay. So Disney can tell when you enter and exit a store. *Shrug*

I guess to me there are more things to get worried about then this. Private property and all of that.

How long range are they that they need two within what I assume about 15 feet of each other?

They are both right above a door way, so it appears as if they are capturing information on those entering/exiting the store. It's also possible that the design of that particular sensor doesn't have a wide scan area, so that could explain why there is one over each door.

I'm with you - I really just don't care if they follow me around virtually while I'm there. It's not like I'm doing anything super secret or even interesting to the average person!

Big $$ in all the tracking/storing/selling info. All the RFID will keep me away from Disney. Don't have to go there for that We are tracked enough. We are AP holders and us ID to enter. They can keep all their tracking.

LOL! Same here. We aren't up to anything shady so I could care less if they know I walked into their store or not. And personally as a parent I think it's kind of cool that if one of my kids got away from me or someone took them there is a chance they could use that info to help locate them.

I'm no conspiracy theorist or anything, but these things do seem a bit weird to me. Creepy is a good word too. It's bad enough that google reads your gmail and shows you advertisements on your mail screen based on some key words within those emails. To me, that's creepy as well.

The first email I get from Disney that reads..."We noticed you shopped at the Disney store on June 24th at 5:30 pm but didn't buy anything. Was there a reason why?" I will throw those magic bands right into the fireplace.

I wouldn't count on the kidnapper keeping the magic band on the kid, if he/she were kidnapped.

Also, there are Disney employees (or even a 3rd party agency) collecting that info. Can you trust the people who are working for Disney World to be 100% upstanding citizens? I don't think I do.

Listen to your gut.

Is this also the way they are adding your ride photos to your MM without having to go to the counter after the ride? We leave in 3 weeks and have ordered MM and have been reading that you don't need to go to the counter anymore. I wondered how they are doing this.

At least Disney is telling us and making it sound like "fun" Everything is tracked and sold/kept. It all can be used against anyone. With all the info and combined info all are collecting, you would be surprised at what can be manufactured to say about someone. So many say they don't care-aren't doing anything wrong and shrug it off. If you don't agree with all this, yes, a conspiracy theorist! Even a dr. told my friend she was one for questioning a procedure!
