I finally posted my trip reports from May 2004! Here is the companion dining review. (Let's hope these places are still open, it's been so long!)
Tubbi's Buffeteria: I had the roast chicken plate and DH had the fried chicken plate. Both came with potatoes and gravy, a roll, and carrots with peppers. We split a brownie. The chicken potatoes were very good, and so was the roll. We didn't eat the carrots, are you kidding me? I don't do carrots on vacation. The brownie was sadly inferior to Duncan Hines. Overall grade: B+
Boardwalk Bakery: I had a plain bagel with cream cheese--untoasted, plus a chocolate milk. DH had a chocolate cinnamon yummy--just looking at it gave me heartburn. Overall grade: B, with points off for scary feathered dining companions.
Biergarten: We both had the buffet. Items of note were the meatballs, spaetzle, bratwursts, chicken schnitzle and the delicious pretzel bread. Despite the slightly uncomfortable seating policy, we both enjoyed this. Overall grade: A.
Pretzel and popcorn stands at Epcot: Just what you'd expect, yummy. Overall grade: A+, extra points to popcorn stand for adding that incredible popcorn aroma that just says: Disney.
Beavertail stand: Should I even do this to you as I've heard it's gone now? In the interest of journalistic honesty, I must make this report complete. DH got a cinnamon Beavertail. It was soft, warm, and sweet. Overall grade: A.
French cafe place: I got a cheese plate with a half baguette and a chocolate chip cookie. I love the cheese plate, and the cookie was good too. Overall grade: A+ with extra points because I had been wanting that cheese plate for a long time.
Cosmic Ray's visit one: I had a hot dog, no fries, and DH got the cheeseburger and fries. They were both very good, especially my hot dog. The condiment stand ketchup dispenser made the most awful wind-breaking sound when I got my ketchup. I feel sure that some diners thought it was me. The mustard did the same thing. At this point, some people probably wondered why I was trying to eat when I was obviously having some digestive upset. I repeat: it wasn't me! Overall grade: A
Mrs. Pott's Cupboard: I had the brownie sundae. I always have the brownie sundae. Someone always wants to share it. It is a good thing the brownie sundae is so big. Overall grade: A++ and I will be back!
Sleepy Hollow: DH got the funnel cake. It was a leader in funnel cake goodness. Truly a shining star. Overall grade: A+ (hey honey, give me some more, you hogged my sundae!)
Columbia Harbour House: Everything good you've heard about the tuna sandwich is true. I don't know what they do to it, but it's better than what I do to it. And I liked the bread. Plus, no onions. Overall grade: A.
Rosie's at MGM and the pizza place next to it: Service at the pizza place was sllllllllllllllllllllllloooooow but the pizza was pretty good as was my garden salad. DH's burger from Rosie's made me jealous, though. Don't you hate it when that happens? Overall grade for both: B+
Frozen banana from ice cream cart at MGM: The goodness of the frozen banana is only enhanced by the difficulty you will have in finding it. Try near Star Tours--that may be the only place in the entire World that carries them. The last time I went to DL, I could have beaten them off with a stick. Overall grade: A+
Spoodles: For breakfast one day, I had the Mickey waffles. Adorable and delicious. I felt a little bad for eating Mickey's head, but I got over it. DH had french toast and bacon, both of which received a thumb's up. Overall grade: A
Franch cafe place again: Cheese plate required a repeat performance, with more baguette this time. I also had the cake of the day, a chocolate fudge raspberry confection that could be the cake of the year, as far as I am concerned. DH had a ham and cheese croissant (only fair, he tells me), and apple tart (delicious), and a flan-y thing of questionable attractiveness. There was nothing in question about its taste, however, which failed with flying colors. Ewwww. Overall grade: A
Cosmic Ray's 2nd visit: I had a cheeseburger, no fries, and DH had a bacon cheeseburger and fries again. Overall grade: A
Planet Hollywood: I had 1/2 rotisserie chicken dinner with garlic potatoes & DH had surf and turf. I also had a gorillas in the mist drink--I can't remember what all was in it except chocolate flavor, banana flavor, and possibly run. They did something novel with the straw. This was bar food, 'nuff said. Ok, overpriced bar food, 'nuff said for real this time. Overall grade: C.
Ghiradelli: I had caramel sundae, DH had some kind of cone. Overall grade: B for dirty, sticky surfaces dragging down the grade I would have given the ice cream.
Dolphin Fountain: I had a grilled cheese, tomato and bacon sandwich. It was ok. DH had chili dog and chili fries. It was ok too. Overall grade: B
ABC Commissary: It's NASTY, people, just NASTY. I had the house special, rubber pancakes, and DH had a hockey puck biscuit and some bad eggs, bad bacon.
Overall grade: ABC, how do you stay open? You suck! You get an F-.
We ate at some place near the Backstage Studio Tour attraction. It was blah. I can't remember what we had or if we liked it, but I don't think so. Overall grade: C for failing to stay in my memory. MGM is not the best place to eat, or anyway, the places we have chosen have not been.
Fulton's Crab House: One year anniversary dinner, with crab legs, shrimp for an appetizer, three desserts. Highly recommend the milk chocolate creme brulee. Overall grade for service and food: A++
Next time I'd like to have more PSs: I'd like to try Crystal Palace, CRT, and LTT, as well as the restaurant in Morocco and Le Cellier in Canada and the Brown Derby in MGM. My DH is not a planner and likes to be spontaneous--PSs are too restrictive to the flow of the day to him. So I will try to sneak a few of these in per trip because even the best hot dogs get old real quick.
