Can one of you Universal experts give me a basic list of what rides have long, medium and short wait times so I can plan schedules? (We're planning to go Next March 15th ish) I know one kid is going to want to do all the coasters. We're definitely doing both parks. At least two days, and I'm seriously considering staying at an onsite hotel to do the harry Potter things early.

Thanks!

If you stay onsite, it won't matter if lines are long or short- you will have unlimited express pass. Except for the Forbidden Journey ride in the WWoHP, Pterondon Flyers, and probably the new rides in Diagon Alley that is. You need to stay at one of the three deluxe resorts for the unlimited express passes.

I second stay onsite. You won't regret it. To list ride wait times and lines is hard. With someone that us there all the time I can tell you all day long the lines can vary. Even though we only stay onsite we still look at the wait times.

Stay onsite so much nicer and easier ..Wait times can vary. But March is spring break time and that means crowds..Slow times of year waits are generally 30 mins or less.Moderately busy 45-60 mins .Really busy 60-120 mins ..It can vary widely.

This.

No need to plan schedules.......you can relax and take the day as it comes at Universal if you stay onsite. Would definitely recommend staying onsite if you can....you`ll love it :thumbsup2

We stay for 18 nights and don`t plan anything.....no meals.......ever.

I was actually looking at Cabana Bay which doesn't have the express passes...

Well good luck. Get there for EE and start the parks while it's less crowded. I believe that might be around some spring break.

In which case you are going to want to take advantage of early entry.Mid-March starts many spring breaks and that will bring crowds.

So... If I do bite the bullet and stay at one of the other resorts people say you get two days of the express pass: the day you check in and the day you check out. How does that work if check-in isn't until 3pm? Also, when I put in my party it let me put five people in a two-queen room. Does that sound possible?

Thanks!

You can check in as early as you like check in day.

Your room may not be ready but you can leave any bags with bell services.

Fifth person will be on a rollaway.

We are typically budget travelers, but can't say enough about staying onsite at universal. With express you can loop your favorite rides as many times as you like. The only waits will be the shows where you have to wait for the prior show to finish and clear out. You still get express entry for those. The HP rides that do not have express can be ridden once or twice during early entry with little wait.

As far as sleeping five: The rollaway will take up most of the available space in the room, but chances are you won't be "in" the room that much so it's workable.

You've got some time before your trip, so you might look into credit card reward programs. We accepted an offer from Blue Sky rewards (Am Ex). The sign-on bonus was enough for one night at Royal Pacific Resort. We completed two sign-ups (one for DH, one for me). I believe we had to put $500 in expenses on each card (which we did by running our regular expenses through the cards and paying off monthly so no added cost to us) and we earned the sign-on/bonus rewards... Redeeming the rewards for the RPR was super easy through the Blue Sky website. It was well worth it!

If you stay at Cabana Bay for just early entry, you can still make it work, it just won't be as effortless (we visited Christmas week pre-potter and in July post-potter). The lines do get long quickly for the newest attractions and the main coasters. There are single rider lines if your family is willing to split up. That will help on some of the headliners. And try not to carry a lot of stuff (or use a fanny pack with a three-prong catch which is legal on the rides), it will save time if you don't have to put everything in a locker for each major attraction.

Have a great trip!

Thanks for all the tips. Is the express pass just a card? Do they give you one when you check in and the other one later? Or do they give you a two-day one when you check in?

When you check in you take yourself and your room key over to the kiosks to the side of reception.

You put your card into the machine and get your picture taken.

The EP comes out....it`s just paper and the same size as room keys.....it has your picture on it and the dates you will be there are printed on it too.

So if you check in 05/23/14 and are staying till 05/25/14 it will tell you that EP is valid through those dates.
