There are five of us: Grammy (me), Poppy(DH), DGD- 8 and frequent visitor to the World, and two newbies-Adopted by Heart Grandsons age 8 and 11.

It is the boys first trip to WDW since their father died of cancer 8 years ago. I have helped take care of them since the oldest was 14 months and they are dear to my heart. I have persuaded their Mom to let us whisk them off to WDW for four days. The oldest was only 4 when he last went to WDW with his dad and mom. Dad was pretty sick then and he doesn't remember much. The younger boy was only one. So I want to make it special. I have the first few days mapped out, but when the boys leave I have hit a blank wall. The boys are both hikers and even though I have packed a lot in, I think they are up to it. I would appreciate any suggestions and tweaks. Thanks

SUEVEE,

Kudos to you! sounds like a great plan!!!

ENJOY!

Don't forget to pack or order something for valentines day a nice corsage (sp?) for your DGD might be nice to wear that day. Perhaps she could bring valentines cards for Mickey and the gang at dinner.

Thanks for the great idea about the valentines. :sunny: I did not even think about this. Now, I just need to think about the last four days and what to do. Because Friday and Saturday are the beginning of President's day weekend I am afraid everything will be full, but I just don't seem to be able to get myself into gear. I have never had this problem before.

Have you ever been to Universal? I would suggest your last couple of days there. You could stay at an onsite hotel, assuming there are still rooms, and would then have front of the line for rides. That way any crowds won't matter to you since you'll have at most a 15 minute wait.

T&B

Just left WDW with 8yo boy. He could have cared no less for
all the meals-especially the character meals. Pooh was definitely
NOT on his list but he agreed to Chef Mickeys as Pluto, Goofy,
Mickey and friends are not so childish. This info is just because
I noticed you are stopping just a few hours into MK to eat with
Pooh. DS was so into for Space/Splash/Speedway/Buzz/BTMRR
and anything else that had action-Tcups, Tom Sawyer, Shooting
Arcade, Country Bears was a hit. Also, I notice both EPCOT and
MGM are afternoon visits for you. All the action rides fill their
FP allotments early in the day so if the kids want to ride
Test Track, Mission Space, TOT and RCNRC you may be in for
very long waits. I respect your need to have some sit down
dinners-I'm 50 and it really helps recharge but those kids will
not want to stop for so many meals AND those meals all offer
LOTS of food, they might not want to take time to stuff themselves. Cosmic Rays at MK has some great offerings for
breakfast and lunch. I take a bag of carrots with us usually to
compliment the french fries and soda-actually DS drank almost
exclusively water this trip. Be sure to make use of FP as much
as you can-it really helps when with kids who love the big rides.
That's my take on travelling to WDW with 8-11yo boys. Take
what you need and leave the rest. I'm not saying you're making
mistakes-just our experience. BTW, DS loved Quest this time.
We spent a whole day there-non stop.

Thanks for all the replies. I haven't been able to get back as my computer has been acting funky for a few days and I just got the problem resolved.

The children I am taking are not thrill riders. They do not like the rollercoasters and prefer the shows, so I am not really worried about the action rides. I just hope I can get them to try Haunted Mansion!!!:teeth: Also we are planning to spend a good portion of our time in MK (my favorite) that is why I planned the CP breakfast first as an introduction. , and they have the food the boys will eat!!!!

We leave tomorrow:Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce:
and I am getting those "what did I forget butterflies!"
