We live near western Suffolk county, If anyone knows of someone who watchs pets at their home and who has good references this would be great. We have a golden retriever I do know some people don't like watching larger dogs. I just hate sending my dog to doggie kennels she always comes home
smelly :scared1:

Too bad you dont live in the Va beach area, as this is exactly what I do. I watch dogs in my house while owners go out of town, and have been doing it for 15 years..Goldens are my favorite :)

Good luck with your search...

I have a suggestion...if you have any rescue groups in your area where they soley use foster homes for dogs, sometimes those people will dogsit out of their homes. I know its worked for me. I foster dogs for a rescue group, and have gotten a couple of customers this way...

My ds is doing this for a couple from our church at their house for like 10 days. He gets to commute to college and runs back and forth to check on the dog and sleeps over too. And now he is going to get business from other people in the community. Its retirement so they travel alot. We live in Suffolk County too.

How about asking at the vet or a shelter where there are volunteers etc. This couple wanted the dog to stay in his surroundings etc. Ds told me he has like at least 3 pet beds all over the house. So I guess we know who is King over there for sure. :) He is a yellow lab.

Best of luck. I am sure it will work out for you.

Thanks for your replies...I will contact my vet and town shelters to see if hey know anyone who will take her door a few days

There is one in Ronkonkoma that advertises all the time on Craigs List. Think it is Puppa Love or something like that. We went and looked at it and it was a very nice couple. I never had to wind up using them because I was able to have a family member take care of them at my house. If you can't find it, send me a pm and I will see if I still have their card.

There is a vet on the service rd of Sunrise heading east right before Rt231. I remember seeing a card in there for in home pet sitting.

i'm not really a fan of kenneling dogs either (more from bad experiences in the past). I'm in huntington, sending you a pm.

After 30 years I really prefer kenneling my dogs. Of course I have really cute cocker spaniels that garner lots of attention all day long. They are so lonely with only a couple of pet sitter visits a day.

But I used to let a young woman from the office move in and keep my dog every one in awhile. She lived with her parents as did her boyfriend - also at the office - neither of them knew that EVERYONE knew they were dating. They thought it was such a big secret.

One year at Christmas she was sick and was not at work the day I was leaving. I didn't know what her status was so I just sent my dog to the kennel. She was SO disappointed when she realized that she was not going to have this georgous condo on the water for she and her boyfriend to rendezvous in that week!!!

I was not happy when I discovered they had been sleeping in MY room not the guest room - and my dog had been locked out for their romantic endeavors. My neighbors also complained that they didn't shut the blinds in the kitchen for their "Fatal Attraction Like Kitchen Playtime".
