No additional advice on your original questions, but I would advise you to unpack the bedroom linens and make your bed first - then you're ready to fall into it when you're exhausted. I've moved house more than 25 times; I know whereof I speak!

We pack an "open me first" box with things we will need right away like towels, bed linens, pillows, toilet paper, paper towels, liquid soap dispenser for the sinks, etc...

If you have AAA then check for discounts on any moving service - most offer a 10% discount.

I do have AAA so I will certainly see what discounts are out there, never thought of them having discounts for moving. Guess I know now.

There's discounts for everything, almost, with AAA.

There's also a 20% off coupon for Budget in the change of address packet at the Post Office.

When my aunt moved from South Florida to Dallas, her son drove the 24' truck with her car behind. His biggest complaint was the swaying of the trailer. So it does take a little getting used to. But for the most part, stopping at places next to the highway is pretty easy as most of them are made for getting semis in and out of there. She went with Penske as it was the cheapest option for her move. Just shop around.
