Long day, skipping dinner, going straight for dessert...

Anyone want to join me? I think I'll heat up a leftover brownie (DH requested these for his birthday this weekend) and top it with some mint chocolate chip ice-cream. YUM!

Does anyone else ever do this occasionally? Some days when I'm over all my "adult" responsibilities, I remind myself of one the great things about being an adult (like being able to occasionally skip dinner and go straight for dessert).

I'm allergic to chocolate so I'll pass on the invitation, thanks.

However, I've been known to make a Baked Alaska for my dinner (but I've kindly shared it with the rest of my family!) - in fact if it wasn't so late here (I'm in Ireland) I could be tempted right now!

Night, night!

Wish I could but being diabetic prevents me form this luxury. Enjoy. Sounds real good.

One of the best days of my life was the day my dd (then about 2) asked for cake for dinner (on a night I was particularly exhausted) and I realized, "I'm the Mom. We can have cake if I say so!!!" It was so liberating! Obviously not something we do often, but every now and again it's good for the soul and I think dd will grow up just fine if she eats dessert instead of dinner every now and again!

I'll have some! I have some hot fudge and cool whip in the 'fridge that I'm willing to share. :teeth:

Sandra, how does your body respond when you eat chocolate? I sometimes get migraines from chocolate, but I have a 4yo son who sometimes throws up after chocolate. Not all the time, or he'd never have it, but more than with other foods. I don't know why he reacts this way and I've wondered if it's an allergy, but it seems like he'd have a rash or breathing problem if it were an allergy.

Drat! DH came home early and twarted my plans. Now, I'm having a small sandwich and salad to justify my dessert.;)

I had chocolate cake for breakfast, does that count? Our traditional Christmas Breakfast is always chocolate chip cookies while opening presents! :)

I get migraines. Used to be just if I had chocolate and beer within about 24 hours of each other - took a long time to figure that one out!

However, as time went on I found I couldn't have any chocolate at all, with or without beer.

Could be your son has a reaction when he has chocolate and a particular other food within a close period of time. Hard to work out what the other offending item is, though, you'd need to keep a food diary for quite a while, but it's worth it. Good luck!

It is confusing to try and figure out! As to the migraines, I used to be able to have chocolate, then if I had to much I would get migraines, and now usually very little will cause migraines. I say usually because some types of chocolates seem to be ok and some times of the month I seem to be able to have some. I feel like a detective sometimes trying to figure out what my triggers are.

Back to the topic at hand, I'd love to have dessert for dinner, but it would probably give me a headache. :(

FYI... yes it can be an allergy. DS has vomited tree nuts everytime he has eaten them since he was about 2 1/2. We figured it was an allergy and we were right. He went to the allergist last year and we found out he is allergic to all tree nuts (but not peanuts, as they are in the legume family), wheat, eggs, dairy, and soy. But the tree nut allergy is the only severe one. We now carry an epi-pen with us all the time. But so far, fortunately, his only reaction has been vomiting. He also vomits a few other odd items we cannot seem to figure out. He vomits after eating both McDonalds chicken nuggets and McDonalds shakes (it happened several times before I actually pinpointed what it was). But he eats other foods there with no problems. And he has no trouble eating chicken elsewhere.

Anyhow, is it possible that everytime your son has had chocolate that it has nuts in it? Or maybe he is just truly allergic to chocolate. (:earseek: ) I would definitely speak to the pediatrician about this. ..........................P

BTW..... sorry to have hijacked! Back on topic now!.........P

Wow.... that would be tough for me, as one of my favorite food combos is chocolate chip cookies and beer!..................P

We frequently choose one day on vacation to have Dessert for dinner, the kids love it, and I like it to!

Nope, not usually nuts in them. He's ok with nuts and went through a casher phase during our last WDW vacation. And he doesn't always throw up with chocolate. Quantity seems to make a difference, so maybe it just doesn't agree with his tummy and it's not an allergy. Baffles the heck out of me!

Sorry, back on topic!
