Our cast:
DawnMaree: That would be me, the ultimate planner for our whole group. After this trip I think I still need to perfect my planning.
Rob: My husband. Not as gung-ho about Disney as I am but still was excited to go on this trip.
Evan: 4-year-old son, a.k.a. Papas boy. He is definitely a temperamental child who needs a lot of attention. We had some trying times with him this vacation.
Alec: 2½-year-old son. Daddys boy by day, Mommys boy by night.
Grandma: My mom. Very generous lady, my best friend. She was looking forward to relaxing by the pool (ha).
Papa G: My dad. This would be the official Papa of Evan. He is completely crazy for his grandsons and really would spend the entire time with them if he could.
Grammy: My mother-in-law. First time going to Disney World and really the first vacation of this kind of magnitude for her and Papa W.
Papa W: My father-in-law. He is not a very expressive person, just went along with what everyone else wanted. Grammy had to warn him ahead of time about how expensive Disney really was.
Our Trip Down - Saturday, November 8th
I awoke at 3:30 a.m., not really sleeping well anyway, and started to get ready to go. Rob got up after me at 4 a.m. - his normal waking time. After getting the boys dressed to go, Rob drove me and Alec to the airport while Grandma and Papa G drove Evan (they live next door). Rob had to work on this morning and I didnt want to wait for him so everyone but he flew down early that morning. Our flight was for 6:50 a.m. out of Syracuse, NY, connecting through Atlanta and arriving in Orlando at 11:45 a.m. Our whole trip down went great. The flights were on time, the boys were wonderful. A little bit of ear pain on the descent of our 2nd leg but that cleared up quickly.
Sonny from FL Tours was waiting for us at the baggage claim. We had reserved a luxury van and requested 2 car seats for our boys and a grocery stop. The only complaints would be: 1) showed up with 1 car seat so we had to just buckle in Evan, and 2) the car seat that was provided was very dirty and was actually broken. It was the type that had a front pull-down that the buckle is supposed to go through and then fasten to the seat. The pull-down was broken and Sonny said to just leave it up and buckle the rest. I really did not like that. Imagine a buckle strap going from both shoulders down the chest/belly and then through the legs to fasten. Very disappointed in that. However, our grocery stop was great and Sonny was very helpful carrying as much as he could for us. Aside from the car seats, I was very pleased with FL Tours.
Originally we had reservations with Port Orleans French Quarter but when they decided to close for renovations we were happily upgraded to the Yacht Club. I had standard rooms booked and requested on our reservation nonsmoking rooms, rooms to be close to each other, and garden view lake side. Upon check-in to the Yacht Club at 1 p.m. our rooms were not ready. We walked around just about 15 minutes but had a question to ask the front desk so we went back up and they said our rooms were ready. However, we had a choice of rooms. We could either immediately have 2 rooms next to each other with a quiet pool view and 1 room on the other side of the hall. If we wanted to wait about ½ hour we could have all 3 rooms together and have lake view. Real hard choice!
We chose to wait. Our rooms were: 1075, 1077, and 1079. They were all on the 1st floor. We could walk out onto the grassy area. Our view was of the gazebo and the lake looking toward Epcot. We could even see the fireworks from Epcot every night. Wow!!! We felt extremely lucky to have been upgraded like this. What a dream come true. Having the 1st floor was really nice as we could all walk to each others rooms outside and Evan and Alec loved playing in the grassy area. That evening they had a wedding at the gazebo.
Grandma, Grammy and the Papas went to the Yachtsman Steakhouse for dinner and absolutely loved it. Rob came in around 7:30 p.m. and we all had room service which was quite tasty. Reviews will be on the Dining board.
Rob, the boys, and I took a little walk around the grounds and then stopped near the marina to view Illuminations fireworks. Evan and Alec loved the fireworks. We all went back to the room and went to sleep. We had an early wake up to make it to the Magic Kingdom early entry...
