London / Paris Here We Come!!! 9/2 - 9/10/11

Here's part of my list....

Harrod's
Hampton Court Palace
Buckingham Palace - inside!
some of the Royal gardens around Buckingham Palace and Kensington Palace

And then there's food and a great pub or two!

If they don't do the changing of the guard while we are in London, I wonder what our other activity will be?????

Is there a reason why you think they won't be doing the changing of the guards while we're there? I heard ABD had a pretty good vantage point for that, and I'm really looking forward to it!

I'm still putting my list together...

Because I'm  right now..... I do some of my trip research at the office and things are out of control crazy right now. I went back and re-read where I thought I saw that and was mistaken. :rolleyes1 :flower3:

I must say kudos to Mike for not trying to prove I was wrong and he was right. When he told me I was wrong, and I insisted I wasn't, he let it go knowing I'm  Thanks honey! :love2:

Now back to our lists.....:upsidedow

Hi London/Paris trip members! your adventure sounds amazing!

My sister and I are hoping to coincide a trip to London (we live in N Ireland) with a potential dismeet, I've scanned the thread and can't see anything but maybe I've missed it?

Any plans for a London dismeet? I would love to hear all those American accents together, almost (but not quite) as good as getting to go to America itself!:goodvibes

I believe Pete said Sept. 4th. Location TBD, Time TBD

Hey, guys, I started a thread on the ABD forum asking for suggestions from folks of things to do on my pre-days in London. Folks have come up with some killer suggestions! I thought I'd share.

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2713414

I'm hoping maybe, if enough folks are interested in one or two of them, we could actually plan to do some of them together during our "time on your own". I think a lot of folks have already expressed an interest in doing Harrod's. Anything else inspire you?

The ceremony of the keys sounds awesome! I think I'm going to have to send in a request and hope for the best. Lots of great suggestions on that thread, thanks! :thumbsup2

So I got stung by a bee this morning, and have spent the afternoon on the couch. Not what I had planned for today, but I got a jump on the London part of our adventure!

I bought tickets online for Buckingham Palace! :cool1: Mike and I will be there Friday morning at 10:00, our adventure starts later that afternoon.

On this webpage https://www.rceltickets.com/eventlist.asp?VenueID=1 I purchased "The Royal Day Out". It includes timed entry to the Queen's Gallery (10:00), and entrance anytime that day to the Royal Mews - where the royal coaches, cars, horses, etc are stored, and the State Rooms, which is only open to the public at certain times of the year. Price is 31 pounds per person.

If anyone would like to join us, we'd love to meet you before the adventure begins!

When were you thinking of requesting the ceremony of the keys for? I'm in London the 31st & 1st, so I was going to request those, but I was wondering if I'd improve my chances if I requested the 4th, too (our evening "on your own" in London).

Me, too! OMG, I'm making plans for LONDON!!!! :yay:

Add me to the list of Buckingham Palace visitors I was amazed that it was that easy, I always thought that Buck Palace was an impossible ticket. I also notice that even at Buckingham Palace you exit through the gift shop...

Who's in need of a new Tiara?

I was going to do the opposite, request the last night in London followed by the first nights we are in London. In your thread, someone suggested going after you've done the Tower tour, since that's our last day, I was going to request that evening. I don't really want to do it earlier in the trip because I'm a little concerned about jet lag and finding our way there and back.

That does make sense (doing it the day we go to the Tower). I'm not quite as worried about jet lag, as I'm spending a couple of days in Winchester before heading to London, so I'm hoping to get the jet lag over with while I'm there. But I guess I could request our last night in London, followed by the 1st of September or the 31st of August...

(I spent a semester as an exchange student in Winchester many, many years ago, and am looking forward to revisiting the place)

SO jealous of you all! I love England. It is my all time favorite country to visit. I never got to see Buckingham Palace other than from afar. Westminster Abbey is amazing, especially author's corner. Take lots of pics for us stuck at home!
