Lombard Street in San Francisco-"World's Crookedest Street"

 According to the on-line Yiddish Slang Dictionary, noodge is NOT a compliment.

Au contraire. It was meant to be one. But perhaps chutzpah would have been a better word to use. Acknowledging that you're ticking off the residents and will likely continue to do so.

262996CD-F23C-46A8-9E97-6DB0D9986CD5.jpeg We were there last month. We took the cable car which stops at the top and then walked down and up again. My husband noticed a sign that said there were certain hours which the road was only open to residents. Unless the residents move there decades ago they must have known it would be busy when they moved it.

We have similar issues in some residential areas of Vancouver due the the cherry blossoms but at least it is a short term thing not all year long. It is on the new every year.

World's Crookedest Street

It's not Wall Street???:smooth: Thank you, I'm here all week. Try the veal and don't forget to tip your server. :flower1:

The tour guides in San Francisco love this joke. We took the hop on hop off bust and heard it at least 3 times.

Ahhh, OK - you meant it in the good way. It's so hard to read tone on a message board. :lmao:Off to google au contraire now...

My first ever trip down Lombard Street was in one of these cool little GoCars. This isn't my picture but you get the gist:

The tour guide on the bus tour called these go carts “speed bumps”. Lol. They looked fun though!

I wasn't aware of those little cars. How much are they to rent?
I don’t really remember; that visit was in 2013. We had a one-day port stop during a cruise and the pre-programmed GPS tour in the GoCar was a great way to see a little bit of everything. We picked it up near Union Square and tootled around to Fisherman’s Wharf, the Golden Gate, the Presidio, Land’s End, Golden Gate Park, Chinatown and of course Lombard Street.

Interesting. Do you know if they rent these so I could run over those pesky little GoCars? ;)

It's like people that move right next to the freeway and then demand that taxpayers fund a sound wall. The freeway was there first and you moved there anyway. Why should everyone else pay for that? Now sure if a freeway is built right through an existing neighborhood, yeah, put a sound wall in. But if the freeway is there first, no way. Oh and I have absolutely no sympathy for the residents of Lombard St. Just the well to do wanting to keep out us rif raf. If they're fed up with it they can sell (or rent somewhere else)
Or it's like moving near Disneyland and then complaining about the fireworks.

Just saw one on the news over the weekend. A guy back east suggested a university that has been there 100 years before him should move if the university doesn't want to be his dog's toilet.

The amount of traffic on that street has grown exponentially over time. Sure, it has always been popular, but when I first moved to the City (early 80's), you could easily go down it. No line ups. No back ups. Now, it's INSANE. IMO, walking it is the way to see it anyway. Shrug. I don't blame the City for trying to monetize this.

I did this with my mom and dad back in the 70's - then years later I read about it and all of a sudden it a was "thing".

But lovie and i bought this house for 4 million. I demand San Francisco keep the rif raf out.....

Or move next to Wrigley Field and complain about crowds in your neighborhood. IDIOT - Its the reason your property values is double what it should be.

Googling "noodge" right now...I'll get back to you on whether or not I can like your post.

I've never used Noodge in a good way.....but maybe that's just me.

I'm moving next to a 50,000 seat baseball stadium but I had better not see any crowds...... HAHA.
Reminds me of the old lady that gets in the pool and complains about getting wet or goes to the ocean beach and complains about the waves.

Last summer while at Six Flags waterpark I noticed a grandmother standing by the edge of the wave pool with her feet in the water. She was wearing capris and a t-shirt. Some kids ran by goofing off and inadvertently splashed her She let out of torrent of, well, not so nice words in Spanish, most of which I understood. I don't think the kids even noticed.

And it's not just older women. Plenty of young women like to relax by the pool (to see and be seen) but heaven forbid they actually get a drop of water on them.

We discussed how much we'd hate living on Lombard St last time we were there. But it's certainly not a secret that it's a tourist attraction, and has been for decades, so that's something prospective residents should have thought about before purchasing or renting there. Have to admit I've added to their frustration. I've driven down, been down on a segway, and have walked it. What can I say? The kids were fascinated and always wanted to go when we were in SF.

I hate that!!

On Friday afternoons, you can't even get in my mother's condo pool at Del Boca Vista.....all the ladies just came back from the hairdresser and think that its FINE to wade in the pools. When my son was maybe three, on accident, he splashed one of the gals and she started yelling at him....I was sitting in my chair watching it go down, got up and jumped in the pool to see what the fuss was about. :rotfl2:
