:rolleyes1 So I call to make a reservation at Sci- Fi for 3 people. The CM tells me they have tables available for the day and time I would like.... "Well that is great! I would like to book it " I said

Here is where it gets interesting. The CM then goes into a long explanation about the tables are for only 2 people so we will NOT be seated together under any circumstance and in no way should I expect to be seated even near each other.

Ummmm OKaaaay So I ask her if we are not near each other who gets the check? ( I was just kidding) but She then tells me that we will each get our own separate check to pay:scared1: :rotfl: :scared1: Oh Boy! LOL

Rubyprincess:

ETA.... I am not worried about what she said. I just thought it was a funny story to pass along. Thanks Everyone!

Chances are the CM has never been to Sci Fi. We've eaten there with an odd number party and one person will have to sit in a car seat by him/herself, of course, but I think the hostess will try very hard to make sure you are all in one car, especially if you are willing to wait for two rows to open up. (Or, perhaps put you at one of the tables, if you wished)

:rotfl2: OMG that's hilarious!

Three separate checks?!?!? LOL

Very strange!

Now, I have never eaten there. But what will happen to our party of 5? 2 adults and 3 small children? Should we not eat there?

dont worry you will be fine two people to a row the cars on average hold six. you are just behind each other. it is a bit odd and does not make for good conversation but its cool just the same. now if there are 15 of you......................................................

No worries about eating there. This is yet another story (and a very funny one) of a misinformed CM.

The OP didn't think this was true, just posted because it's funny.

:thumbsup2 We have eaten there many times so I was not worried about what she said. I just thought it was funny!

I think you will be fine. When I booked my ADR for there with 7 people the only thing the CM told me was that we would not be able to sit in one of the cars due to the number of people (which is fine with us).

well, here's the thing....when I was working at CRT and making ressies for people, if we had 2-2 tops for a fam of 4 and that's ALL, we were allowed to book it, but as always, we had to set expectations low.....and let them know that there was a possibility that they would be apart......

just like 2 6 tops for a fam of 12......the way the restaurant turned, it might not be possible for the 2 areas of paired 6 tops to be available at the same time......so they might be separated.....usually if they were separated, we would talk it over with the family, but it has been known to happen.....

what they told you makes perfect sense....

I think that where it got to be really funny, and didn't make much sense, was the "everyone gets their own check to pay" So a party of 4 would get 4 bills.

It would be interesting if you were a party of one adult a 4 year old and a two year old...............hmmmmmm........which child would you seat far away??? and would the child pay in play money?????????:rotfl2:

I'd love to hear the response to this!! Go ahead and give the child a separate check, they'll probably just color all over it!!

While I don't know about the way that the CM explained this to you, the information is absolutely correct. There is a possibility that anyone in a party of 3 or more may be seperated. Now, I'm sure if this were going to happen once you got there, you could opt to wait around until a more desirable seating situation opened up but they have to warn you just the same. Maybe by "seperate checks" she meant that there would be individual checks for those not sitting together.

How can that be?? As the PP mentioned, what if the party of 3 is a parent with 2 small children?

And, really, how many parties of 3 would really want to be split into 2/1? Some people travel solo to Disney and that's great, obviously they'll be dining alone (unless meeting up with someone). But someone traveling with family/friends probably doesn't want to then eat alone??

Large parties, sure. But then at least you have at LEAST one other person to dine with!

I don't know, for sure, but I would bet that they would try like heck to put them together ... though they might have to wait longer for two rows to open up.

Seems similar to booking two tables on the same reservation - we've had to do that several times with our party of five. Disney dining CMs are careful to say that you MAY be seated apart but the restaurant will do their best to put us together. And, they always have, but the chance exists that it may be impossible for a busy restaurant to do. The fact is: Sci Fi "cars" seats only two per row so it (or the restaurant itself) might not be the best choice for one parent/two kids. They also have regular tables in the back that do not seem to be very popular, they'd probably have no problem securing one of those.
