We will be traveling and staying at AKV for our first DVC stay in April 2017. Our in laws will be joining us so we would like to book a 2 BR. Unfortunately (under current points chart) a 7 day stay in a 2BR is 12 points more than what i will have. I will have 360 with banking and borrowing and the room is 372. I want to book at 11 months to ensure our dates so doing the one time purchase of points won't work.

I did however look at the cost of a studio and we could each do a SV studio (so 2 studios) for one night (19 points each = 38 points) and then move to the SV 2BR for 6 nights (322 points) on our second day. So i guess in all we would have 3 separate reservations.

How would you book this type of reservation?

Is an AVK 2 BR difficult to get at the 11 month mark (in april)? I am waiting for my membership number so i can't get into the system yet to check what current availability is.

You certainly can do what you want to do.

April's point chart varies, depending when Easter is, will Easter affect the number of points you need?

There will be plenty of availability. You could wait until 11 months from your check in day for the 6 night stay, then book the previous night in the 2studios.

Welcome Home, I hope you have many wonderful vacations using DVC!

AKV is a large resort so you shouldn't have any trouble getting your rooms.

This seems like a creative way of handling it, and no, I would not expect you to have any problems getting the rooms you require! Since it's only for one night, you could even save some points and do two studios with the most basic level of view (is it standard?). This will make the grand move-in to the 2-bedroom with the savannah view all the sweeter (it would be anti-climactic to move from a savannah view studio that just happened to have a slightly better view!) and you'll have some extra points for the next vacation!

If at Kidani then you'll most likely be able to get the extra night at 7 months. I'd probably book the 6 nights in the 2 bedroom and 1 night in the 2 studios at 11 months just to guarantee rooms and then call to change the 2 studios to a 2 bedroom and buy the one time use points at 7 months. That way you know for certain you have something for all the nights. If it's Jambo then I'd definitely do as I suggest and cross fingers at 7 months for the 2 bedroom but you probably would still get it but I'd consider that less certain.

Great idea! I would have never thought about making the change at 7 months. That is what I love about all of you here- the knowledge and experience is priceless!!!

This suggestion is a great idea. Also you could ask MS to combine all the reservations into one reservation or at least label it continuing stay.

We were at AKV last year and booked a 2 bedroom and a studio to accommodate everyone. I put an annotation on both reservations pointing at the other reservation by number and asking that we be close together. Member services did a great job accommodating our request, so when you have the two studios you might want to do the same thing so you are close.

Options as I see them at 11 months for AKV are as follows (if the points are the same for the time you need). Each has their advantages and disadvantages.

  • Book value 2 BR, you should have enough for this.
  • Book 2 BR either standard or Savannah, them book 2 studios (or ? one 1BR) for the rest of the nights. I presume it's Savannah due to the fact that 372 is a week savannah in a 2 BR.
  • Book 2 studios the entire time.
  • Book one 1BR at Kidani (2 baths). This would depend on your group, I'm not sure the makeup of it though I suspect there are enough kids to make this not workable in this exact situation.
  • Get a few points transferred to your account that will work for then so you can do everything at 11 months out. For this I'd use those for the last day(s) of the reservation.
For me it would depend on the specifics. If going to hang out at the resort, I'd do the Savannah and get the transferred points though I doubt you'd have any trouble getting the one night at 7 months out though you might have to wait list. Since it's April, you might have to do some investigation as to which end is more likely to be available. The further away from Easter the better, but late April (near May) is likely better than earlier April. If doing a lot of park time and just using the resort mostly to rest, I'd do value and/or ? 2 studios and maybe even change to a different resort 7 months out.

The other issue is Premier will be 9-23 April, I'm betting this impacts your trip. So it might be as much as 485 points rather than 372. If this is the case you have even more decisions to make. If that's the case I'd do the value if you can or 2 savannah studios for which you will need 2 points to complete the last one. For that choice you might do one 7 nights and one 6 nights with the other night in a standard trying to change the last night 7 months out buying the 2 points from DVC. Or you could do one in a standard and one in savannah the entire time.

I like your plan---- and if you book a 2 bed lock off, very likely you could have one of the studios for the first night be part of the 2 bedroom, so one of you might not have to move.......and if you both could fit into the one bedroom with 2 baths for one night, no one would have to move.
