Logistics of paying for DP at time of booking

I just thought I would toss out a few random thoughts...

First, regarding folks who rent...

I would assume that it is fairly standard practice to require payment for your reservation more than 30 days in advance. I would suggest requiring that the cost of the dining plan be included in the final payment. That way, you can add the DDP and have the money in hand to pay for it.

Second, regarding those who allow family/friends to use their points...

How about asking them to purchase a gift card for the amount of the DDP? That way, they would not have to disclose their credit card information to you and you could still make the call to MS for them?

Just my $0.02:hippie:.

Assuming you mean the pre-paid Visa/MasterCard type cards, the gift card suggestion is a good one, provided the system will accept gift cards. I've seen some vendor systems that will not process them. We'll have to wait until the system enhancements are complete to see if Disney's reservation system will accept them.

Sandisw...I was wondering the same thing about split stays. We often do 9 night stays, 3 & 6. We like to get the deluxe plan for the first three nights and then no plan for the other six. If they start making us get a plan for 9 nights, we won't get any plan at all. We just started going off site a night or two, and if you have a car, it's really not bad at all, and I thought I would hate it.

I guess I better add the DP today for our three nights at BLT so we'll be grandfathered in.

I don't understand why they need the money up front. Because we were with our niece in January, we got the DDP for the whole week (less hassle) even though she was only there for four nights. It was almost $900. Why should they have all that money 11 months in advance? Most of us book at 11 months out, don't you think? I can see they may make us add it far before 48 hours, otherwise that's what everyone, myself included, will be doing.
