DH would like to go over to Atlantis for just a short while to do a little gambling. (I don't enjoy it that much, glad there is no casino on the ship!)

My questions are:

1) How far away is it?
2) What is the quickest / safest / cheapest way to get there?
3) Can you just go to the casino or do you have to be a guest?

I'm a little confused about Atlantis .. keep hearing you have to be a Guest or sign up for a tour to go there ....

Even to the casino?

thanks

WDW~ Hi!!! I can answer few of your questions!
~ YES!!! By all means make sure you visit Atlantis! They CERTAINLY don't turn away anyone (except nassau residents) from the Casino!

~You can actually see the resort from where the Wonder will dock

~We always just take a water taxi ... it is readily available as soon as you get off the ship ... HOWEVER, you asked for the safest way ... hehe ... not too sure if that is the safest way. :D

~DH & I have been many times just to walk around and have never booked the shore excursion through the cruiseline. Unless you want to use the waterpark/aquarium/etc it is not neccesary to pay. This being said, I heard from several people who have just recently been and didn't have to pay anything to use those things. They just got off the ship, went over there and started using the facilities. Not sure if they just didn't get caught or the resort is trying to encourage travel again since 9/11???? Just an FYI!!

Good Luck!!! You will enjoy atleast seeing the resort! It is WOWWY!!!! Have great trip!!!! :)

Even if you don't like to gamble do not miss Atlantis. It is so beautiful! Such a pleasure just to walk around the hotel and whatever parts of the grounds you are allowed on. We did get in part of the aquarium without having to pay last fall. Our taxi driver told us that there was no charge after 4:45p.m. Don't know if that still stands but is still well worth the quick ride over anyway.

Can you elaborate more on this? I just assumed we would take a reg taxi. Is it the water taxi that is $6 or $7 per person or the reg taxi? the water taxi sounds like much more fun!

We have always paid $4 to $5 per person for a "land" taxi, and have been quoted $3 for the water taxi (all per person, per way). We have always done a regular taxi...we don't know much about boats, but someone who does pointed out the fact that the water taxis are often very overloaded. Also, they only run till a certain time (5ish?), whereas the taxis are available at any time.
But if you really have a preference for the water taxi, I do have to say that in 18 cruises, I have never seen anything bad happen. Of course, you may be sitting a while, as they do not generally leave until the boat is so full that they can't cram on another body. Same thing happens with the taxis, but since they are smaller, you leave a lot quicker!

An advantage of a taxi over the water taxi is that the taxi takes you right to Atlantis door. If you take the water taxi, it is a long walk up to Atlantis from the dock especially when it is really hot. We took water taxi over, but on the return trip we paid the same price for a regular taxi. If I ever go over again, we will just take a taxi.
