Logistics of a Points Transfer

So we have some points that while we could bank, we know we're not going back to Disney in the next year to use them, so we are going to transfer them to another member. I've already got someone lined up, but since this is the first time we've ever done this, I was hoping someone could lay out the logistics of how it's done (do we both need to call member services, do i just need their membership number, etc.).

TIA!

I received a transfer from another member on this boards rent/transfer board. The member making the transfer asked that i make payment in the form of a bank check, once he received the check he made the phone call to make the transfer and then he texted me to let me know it was completed. The points were immediately in my account.

I believe that you can make a call with both members on the phone, but if this is a trustworthy transaction (meaning you know you will get paid with valid funds) then only you need to call. Once the transfer is made it can not be reversed so it is on you to make sure that you have the money in hand before making the transfer. Some people will accept paypal payment, which is a quicker method for the money transfer.

You can’t undo the transfer. Make sure you have your entire payment up front.

Technically, it’s against the rules to trade points for money, for two main reasons, 1. DVC needs to protect the legal fiction that points have no value (they’re merely representative of the underlying ownership that has the value), and 2. If it’s against the rules, you have no recourse if things go wrong.

Unofficially, DVC has always turned a blind eye to the practice.

You can do a three way call or you can make the transfer and get a confirmation number to give to the other party. Either way works.

But. Get paid first. Unlike renting, you have no recourse after the fact.

Thanks! I intend to get a full PayPal payment before doing anything. We're not talking big money here (only have 14 points to transfer), but definitely want our funds before we transfer our "no value" points! :)

This.

If you even imply that money is involved, expect MS to give you a hard time and refuse to go through with the transaction.

I have transferred my points. I got paid upfront, called MS with the member number (I also asked for person's full name and city, just to verify that I had given the correct member number)...and then once it was done, got a transaction # and sent that to the member who received the points. She then called MS and verified using that transaction number.

I have always used PayPal for point transfers( I was the purchaser) and have had no issues with the seller(transferor).

No...transferred points can only be used by calling MS to make a resize...they will not show up on line.

I just received a points transfer for Dec 2018 points. Can I receive another transfer before April 2019?

I'm guessing you have an April UY? So you could receive points into your 2019 UY - but you've received your one for the 2018.

Did it a few times - less than a straight rental - more than a third party. Both Members on the phones at the same time.
