Logistics for spectators on race day

Hi guys!

My group was hoping to be able to stay in one of the resorts on the monorail line...but we waited too late to reserve our rooms. We will be staying at Pop Century for the 1/2 marathon in January. The spectators in our group would like to see us on the course and at the finish. Any advice on what the best plan would be? How do spectators staying in non-monorail line resorts get to the MK early in the morning to see their runners? Should they just head straight for the finish and not worry about seeing us on the course? Thanks, in advanced, for any advice!

Christy

They will have buses that go to Epcot. They can see the start and mile 4.

From there, they hop a monorail and view from TTC or MK. Can hop monrail again and possibly catch from monorail resort. Then monorail back 2 finish.

Technically, that can drive to AK, but that seems like a logistic nightmare to me.

I am a seasoned spectator - DH has been running Disney for years now.

I always drive our car to Epcot when they open the lot (sometime around 7-7:15am). This serves two purposes:

1. I can hop the monorail to the MK. I see him there, then monorail back to the finish. Since the finish area is always packed, I use my AP and watch him run by just inside the Epcot entrance, before the finish.

2. The car is at the finish so Chad doesn't have to take a long bus ride all sweaty back to the resort. I have an extra towel, sweatshirt, etc. in the car for him also.

Another thing I'd like to mention...last year my Dad & I decided to instead drive to MK to see Mom & Chad run by. WELL...apparently if you park in the Dopey lot (one right behind the AAA & handicap spots), you cannot cross over to get on the monorail to MK! There were CMs near us that couldn't even get to work that morning! So, I will not drive to MK again to watch runners.

Another BIG vote for using the monorial. That is the only way they will be able to see you multiple times. DH & scream team took the monorail to Contemporary , then hopped to Poly, then to Epcot to see me finish. It was so great seeing my support team 3 places!!!! They said it was very easy for them getting around that way. (and this is with 2 12yo, 4 yo , 8 yo & grandpa in tow)

Christopy - If you're watching a seasoned athelete, Kristi's way sounds good (if you have a car). If you're watching someone who will be dead after the race (like we were), the buses pick you up VERY close to the finish and it did not seem like they made a lot of stops to me. JMO. Having a car there adds a lot of other niceties, too.
