Logistical Points Allocation Question

Please bear with me as I try to explain. This is the first time I have had to deal with waitlists and borrowing points.

Here is the current situation. We have a 2BR lockoff at the BCV reserved for 11/22 - 11/26, then a 2BR at SSR for 11/26 - 11/28. (This is for family who decided late to join us.) We are on a waitlist to get the entire stay at the BCV (either by getting the remaining nights in a lockoff, or any other category). If the waitlist comes through, the entire reservation would require 8 more points than what are currently being used for the split stay.

Points situation is this:

- Points left in 2008 use year = 0

- 2008 points banked into 2009 = 8 (I had saved banking these until 9/30 in case the waitlist came through)

- 2009 points remaining = 17 (we have booked a cruise using the majority of 2009, plus some 2008 points that were banked)

- 2010 points remaining = 400

Now, here is where the logistics come in. On 10/28 I am going to try to book a few nights for VB in May. This will require me to use the 25 points now in 2009 use year, plus borrow some from 2010.

So, if the waitlist for November comes through after 10/28 when all of my 2009 points are gone, can they reallocate the points (borrow more from 2010 for the May VB reservation and free up 8 points from 2009 (obviously not the 2008 banked points)) to fulfill the waitlist?

If you have read this far - thanks!

It sounds as though you have a February Use Year?

If so, then the trip in November falls in your 2008 Use Year and thus you'd be able to use points banked from 2007, current from 2008 and/or borrowed from 2009. If you plan to use points from the 2009 Use Year for the trip next May, it would use the remaining points from your 2009 Use Year and you would not be able to borrow 2010 points for a trip in November, 2008.

A reallocation of points could be done, but may involve the need to cancel the May trip in order to free up the points to complete the November BCV reservation - thus it's possible to lose the May reservaton in the process (probably not, but possible).

I'd even suggest waiting until the November waitlist expires to make the VB reservation. That way you'll have no issue if you need the additional 8 points from the 2009 Use Year. I'd think the VB availability would still be fine a couple of weeks later.

I really think you'll be fine either way and the real deciding factor in all of this will be BCV availability and ultimately the waitlist.

Good luck with your decision.

It is a February use year. Since we are trying to book the Thursday through Sunday after Memorial Day, I am a little worried about availability at VB. Maybe in making the reservation I can get MS to preserve 8 2009 use year points that could then be borrowed for the November waitlist if it comes through in time, and make the VB reservation using mostly 2010 borrowed points. That way if the waitlist comes through the 8 2009 points can be borrowed, and if the waitlist does not come through I could still bank the points and use them in 2010. I know I would just have to be very specific with MS when making the reservation.
