Loews Platinum does this make sense to any of you???

if you only claim 3 people, then someone in your group will not get the hotel key which is required for the fotl system.

you will have a king bed and a couch pull out.

the rooms at hrh are larger than rph.

when are you going?
how old are your kids?

I have 12 year old twins and we are going June 11-16.
We had a deluxe room last year and were looking forward to being upgraded to a suite. As far as the room keys, all four of us don't usually go to the park all at the same time anyways; someone always seems to stay back at the pool. It doesn't make sense that they can legally squeeze 5 people into a room that is 375 Sq Ft, but not 5 people in a room that is over 600 Sq Ft.
We can always rent a rollaway or bring a mattress, but they won't go for it and told me that I could forget about getting upgraded to a kids suite unless it happened when we got there, but I can't count on that. I knew that I could count on you guys for any advice.

i hear ya

you can have 5 in a room at universal hotels legally in the standard rooms.

i don't usually say go against the rules but will say, some guests do what is best for their families. sometimes UO hotels go along with it.

when i took 2 sons ages 18 and 19, we were faced with paying extra each night for the additional adult. (18 and over, you are an adult) front desk waived it for us but we did have 2 queen beds to cover our sleeping arrangements.
some bring air matresses w/pump to accomadate the extra person in the room to avoid renting a roll away. this is a smart move. housekeeping wil provide linens and pillows for the air mattress.

only situation you might encounter is the hotel keys are marked with the names on them and indicates A for adult and C for child.
i am assuming you or your husband would be the one at the pool when the other 3 are at the parks.

i have never ever had my key checked for name or A in the express pass lane. i have seen people in a group hand their cards to the employee to swipe and the group has been 1 short on cards. employee only allowed the ones with cards to proceed in that ex lane then.
if one adult will not be going on the rides, and you have hotel key cards for the rest of the group, no one will notice the difference unless they read them besides swipe them. highly doubtful imo.

i am aware the hotels enforce the issue of how many in each room for fire procedures. they need to know at all times if there is an emergency they can account for all registered guests.

i totally understand you can't take the chance of going to the hotel and not getting the suite. you can't afford to screw up your vacation at the last minute like that and want to be prepared.

call again and see if you get a different employee to discuss your situation with. write down their name and any facts you are given.

if you are denied again, then:
i strongly urge you to send an email to the hotel general manager and explain your situation.
let him know you have the trip booked and won't have an alternative place to go once you get there if you are denied the kids suite. if you try to cancel there standing at the front desk, you still have the penalty of paying for one night stay as you didn't cancel 5 days prior.
work with the gm before you make a decision. it may work out to your advantage where you can book the kids suite in advance. maybe they will just do a surcharge with the room rate to upgrade you. it is worth a shot.

it's a four star hotel, surely the gm can figure something out since you are already booked and took time off of work for this vacation.

do you have the loews card?
if you are platinum, no worry about the upgrade.
gold, if there is room
blue, it is a possiblity but not a gurantee.

i hope i have not confused you.

a lot of us regular posters on the threads try to stay away from suggesting anything illegal or against UO or hotel policy. we try to think of alternative ways to help others when they are in a pickle like you are in.

a year ago, we had a very heated thread on some hotel guests giving away their room keys to anyone in the park to use since they would not be back/checking out. no one here who posts regularly accepted that practice.
it's illegal and taking advantage of the system.

hotel room keys are valid for fotl even on the day you check out of the hotel.

McCraven,

Thank you for taking the time to leave such a generous answer.

I usually don't go against policy, but it doesn't make sense if there is extra
safety room allowed for fire purposes and you do supply your own mattress. They should have queen suites, along with king suites, if they don't want people breaking policy trying to accomodate their family. People with four in their family have paid just as much to get up to the platinum level as those with just two or three and should be allowed a privilege when they get there too! Again, thanks and I will try your suggestions.

come back and let us know what happens when you call the hotel directly.
if that doesn't work, maybe we can think of another way for it to be dealt with.
loews first is another group to call to help you secure what you need.

when you talk to the hotel gm, why not ask if you can have 2 connecting rooms so you have the bed space needed by your family. and ask if he wil comp it out since you are not able to book the kids suite in advance.

you can keep the door open between the two rooms. or have one adult per child in the rooms.

doesn't mean this will happen but a thought that might work if you are denied what you need.

please, check back in and let me know what happens.

if i am aware one of the suggestions works, then i can be sure i am not giving out false hope to others.

i always try to work with the staff. not successful then i move up to the gm, and lastly loews.
loew's wants to keep the 4 star hotels as 4 stars. complaints is something loews wants to work with so their image is not tarnished....kwim?

would you consider staying at one of the other 2 hotels in the suites they have?

if no kid studio works, or 2 connecting/adjoining(which ever it is called) works, perhaps you could ask the gm if he can transfer you to pbh or rph.

I totally agree with this. I don't understand why they don't have queen suites. I guess they figure that the deluxe rooms are the same since they offer the two queen beds and the same size pullout as in the king suites.

It is the number of beds that determines the number of people allowed in a room, not the size.

I dont agree with the way they have the number of people set to the rooms. We have staying in a suite that had bedding for 6 and still could only have have 5 in the room. If the Fire codes go by number of people in the room then they should have made those adjustments accordingly.

I think the rule is one more than the number of beds. I don't believe pull out couches count as beds. I think whether the beds are double or queen also makes a difference.
It seems like rooms with two doubles are only allowed 4 people. Rooms with 1 king are allowed 3 and rooms with 2 queens are allowed 5.

This has been an issue for my family too. Unless we get the kids suite at HRH we have to stay in a deluxe. RPH does state max 3 for their exec king suites but we have been upgraded to this room type only at check in and only twice. Usually its PBH for us so we can stay in a suite.

Last trip to HRH we had a lengthy conversation with the manager and we were told the fire codes arent based on people per room but people per floor. I wish they would make a few king suites queen suites but it seems that would over shoot the max floor code.

damo, last time I called and checked rates (loews #) the suites were sold out and I was offered a deluxe as the upgrade. After all this time the answer you get is still based on who answers the call! My husband jokes to keep calling until I get the answer I want to hear.:confused3

enjoy.
try to get room 7100, it is well worth it.

Mac,

What kind of room is 7100? We had 7132 in October and it was ok.....your favorite bean #2 pulled the desk chair up to the lounging chair and made herself a bed by the window!!!

We have a queen room and we kinda need the sleeping space of that ;)

wait you don't want it.
its a king suite. you want queen beds and a deluxe, right?
living room, dining room, king bed.....lots of room

well, maybe my bean #2 could put an air mattress on the dining room table and sleep western style.....

fantastic view of the park.

i left my curtains open all night and used the park lights as my night light.

If only they would allow 5 to a king room of any sort I would LOVE it. Is it a section of the Graceland Suite? I passed that last time and there was a pre-wedding reception party going on in there....they had the doors open and the music on. It was funny as I have never seen anything like that!!:)

Yep - Club level!!
These are all deluxe club level rooms. I would make a request now and again at check-in for the extra space. :thumbsup2

The deluxe king rooms are: 7016,7039,7102,and 7119.
The deluxe queen rooms are: 7019,7041,7099,and 7101.

The king deluxes 7016 and 7039 have views of the side parking lot and service areas. They also however have a view of Universal Studios in the distance. 7102 and 7119 have garden and waterway views.

The queen deluxes 7019 and 7041 have views of the hotels front entranceway. 7099 and 7101 have garden views of the great lawn and waterway.
