I just found out that I'm going to get to stay at the RPH next week for 4 nights. I'm a Loews First member, so I know I get a choice of several welcome amenities.

One of them is listed as "a uniquely local gift". Does anybody have any idea what it is? I'm trying to decide between that and the cookies/milk.

Thanks for any help you might provide!:thumbsup2

I love staying at the Royal Pacific. The only thing I disagee with is a $10 PER DAY parking fee.Hotels should never charge to park a car.Next timeI will just say that we flew in and used a cab.:thumbsup2

do not know what it is, but we had 2 welcome gifts this year 1 was cookies and milk , they where ok but would not request them again, the other was beer and nuts, got 3 bottles of beer and 2 jars of nuts was ok , i drank the beer and DW and DD ate the nuts.

cdiver- its $12 +tax a day now

I agree about the parking. It's really a ripoff, but I find that the more expensive hotels are doing it more and more (I travel on business quite a bit). I was at the Gaylord Opryland Hotel in Nashville a couple of weeks ago, and it was the same thing. Valet parking was $20 (I think it's $18 at PRH).

Thanks for the info about the cookies and milk. They were my second choice. I called and was told that the "local regional gift" is a backpack of some sort with nuts, candy, and a shell necklace. I think I'll stick with that after hearing your appraisal of the cookies! :thumbsup2

Somebody on the Universal resort board reported about the same thing after requesting the regional gift, some sort of shell lei and some candy bars, etc.

As for the parking, I would much rather pay for parking only when I have a car, rather than having the parking fees hidden in the much higher hotel fees of the World, regardless whether I have a car or not.

If $12.00 per night were added to the Universal hotel rate, people wouldn't really even notice. However, I happen to like not having to pay it if I don't have a car.

And just for comparison - we stayed at the Anaheim Marriott this past spring. Mediocre hotel with a huge parking lot; so there was no space availability issues. Parking there was $25.00 + tax per night. If you were a day guest at the Anaheim convention center, you could park in the Marriott parking lot for $15.00 per day.

Loews Santa Monica - which does have major space availability issues - only has valet parking and it was $32.00 per night (included tax).

We just stayed at RPR Oct 19-21 and i had requested the unique local gift. It was my son, age 9, and myself traveling. We received a drawstring bag filled with goodies;disposable camera, lowes mug, bracelet & sarang (i think this is correct), RPR souvenior shell and 4 candy bars and hershey kisses. I estimated it was worth over $60.00.

That sounds pretty good. Since you were just there, maybe that's still what they're giving. I would definitely rather have that than the cookies and milk. Thanks! :thumbsup2
