Lodging between Chatanooga and Atlanta

After flying down several times, I'm thinking we will drive to Orlando for our next trip. We live about 100 miles east of St. Louis. We will probably stop for the night somewhere between Chatanooga and Atlanta. Does anyone have any suggestions about the best places to stay overnight?

In January I stayed at a Country Inns and Suites in Dalton, GA. It was super clean, offers a very nice free breakfast...even waffles and hardboiled eggs in addition to the usual muffins, bagels, etc.

My room was spacious and had a microwave and dorm refrig.

I was driving solo and very much appreciated the gal at checkin giving me two keys and making a point of it when a couple moved very close to me while I was checking in!

I think I paid around $80 with AAA discount.

It even has a fireplace and rocking chairs on the front porch.

Since i live in Chattanooga give a few tips. Try to stay inthe Hamiltion Place Mall area or Dowtown Chattanooga.

Here a few places that are Nice in Chattanooga:

Courtyard by Marriott at Hamilton Palce Mall


Courtyard by Marriott in Dowtown Chattanooga
Residence by Marriott in Downtown Chattanooga
Hilton Garden in Downtown Chattanooga
All these hotels have been built in the last 2 to 3 years so there new.
All three of these hotels is right across street from each other and really close to Tennesse Aquruim and Imax Theater and Chattanooga Lookouts at Bellsouth Park which is a minor league baseball. Also if stay Downtown Chatttanooga you will have access to our free shuttle system that run through Downtown Chattanooga. We also have excellent food places on the shuttle route that is fairly reasonable.

I live 70 miles south of Chattanooga and about 40 miles north of Atlanta so I think I'm in the area you may be looking for. A little north of me would put you in Cartersville, GA. Coming south at exit 277 (Acworth) there is a Holiday Inn Express, Days Inn, Best Western, Comfort Suites and Motel 8. Two exits down (Chastain Road, Kennesaw GA) there is a Fairfield Inn, Best Western, and Residence Inn.

I'm sure there are lots of places to stay along this route. We drove from Nashville to Cartersville last Thanksgiving, and you see alot of motels at the exits. Enjoy the drive, DW and myself thought it was a beautiful drive in the fall. My brother lives in Cartersville is why we went there. They are also from NV, so what a change of scenery.

I would choose the Chastain Rd. Kennesaw exit, also. There are several newer, moderate hotels and it is down the road from a major mall area with many restaurants to choose from, including a Bahama Breeze, if you are dreading the 90 minute waits you hear about on I-drive.

We stayed at the Hampton Inn on I-75 in Dalton Ga. (In Jan on way to WDW from Dayton, OH) Would have been more fun if kids weren't so little because it is literally smack dab in the middle of an upscale OUTLET MALL!!. We stayed for less than $70 a night, with no ressie (called from car an hour before arriving). There is an Outback across street with carry out. Yum. It is a great place to stay.

Annie'sMom - I've lived off the Chastain Rd. exit for over 28 years. I agree with zaxmom, it's a great exit with plenty of clean hotels, tons of restaurants, Town Center mall (huge), basically everything you'd need for a effective over-night stop. HOWEVER, if you plan on heading south from this exit on a weekday, do so prior to 6:30am or after 9:30am - otherwise you will experience some of Atlanta's worst traffic. (Our plan - we leave for WDW on a Tuesday morning in October, and we'll be gone by 6:00am. We eat breakfast at a Cracker Barrel on the Macon bypass.) As long as you avoid the times I mentioned, plan on staying on I-75 through Atlanta - no need to take the I-285 bypass. Let me know if you have further questions about my "stomping grounds."
