locks to use on chairs at waterparks

I would have said something had I had the chance, but I was in the wave pool, and I would not have even noticed except bell had just rung, and I turned around to find DS..

I went by myself to Stormalong Bay and left my bag and towels on a chair and nothing was moved or touched. I swam for awhile and when I came back all was as it was before.

I think I would feel more vulnerable to theft and people just walking up and using your towels at the Water Parks, but I would go there with hubby and we would take turns in the water and sunning. So that way there would always be one of us at the chairs. All the real valuables? Into a locker. No question. I would not take stuff in a bag to the Park that I was afraid of losing, just some reading material, lotion, and like I said any money or passes or room keys go into the locker. That way you don't risk losing somthing you can't live without.

Magazines and books can be replaced. And if I saw people grab up and use my towels off my chair that I rented? I would certainly say something to them. But that is just me. Or just bring some towels you don't care about losing. We have some of those floating around the house....great idea to pack them for the water park.

Have fun, don't take anything you don't want to lose and use the lockers!

We rented a locker at BB and also TL, but my husband had to have his phone near him for a business call (yeah, it would be nice if he didn't have to work while at WDW, but if the choice is between him taking a few phonecalls at a water park or just staying home...I'll opt for the phone calls at WDW every time!) Plus, we wanted to have our room key/cash handy. So a locker was not really convenient.

I felt pretty safe because it seemed that there was always an older person nearby, that was part of a family and just not joining their family members on slides and such. I felt like a thief would not really be sure who was with who, if that makes sense.

Of course, the older, grandmotherly person could be a thief...but I felt pretty safe playing the odds.

You could do what we do.

Dont make a big show of it but for cash and room key/park ticket. Have one of those cheap water proof plastic wallets or a ziplock plastic bag.

As you are gently sunning yourself and reading a book, scoop down maybe 6 inches into the sand with your hand and then drop in the wallet and cover. 30 seconds later, nothing to be seen.

I do this and use a sight line from a stone or a shrub to help me remember.

I have never had to make a pirate map yet......aaaaarrrrrrggghhh

OMG, I love this idea! I can't wait to tell my DH, he will enjoy doing this next time we are there.

I need to remember to have him do it when he is GENTLY sunning himself, as opposed to when he does it roughly.:rotfl:

I could be wrong, but I don't think "holding" chairs is technically allowed at the water parks, so I wouldn't be terribly suprised if the CMs cut your lock (I've seen it done with strollers people locked up).

1) Correct.
2) When visiting, I frequently move items from chairs so we can use them.
3) Chairs are meant to be used, not "saved" and empty.
4) CM's actually remove personal items and towels from chairs on busy days.
5) I don't see being selfish if you are not using the chair.

LOL, ohhh, I would love to see my husbands face if he left his towel, cel phone, suncreen, magazines etc on the chairs that our family of 3 obtained at *park opening,* only to come back after 40 minutes of riding slides, perhaps getting an ice cream cone as a family, only to find his stuff in a pile on the sand next to a person who came late in the day.... and that person laying on his lounge chair!:lmao:

My first comment to you would be, "Ummm, where is the rolex watch I had rolled up in that towel???":confused3

I don't own a rolex watch, and would not go through with such a scam, but you would really be setting yourself up for trouble with many people if you did such a thing! Of course it is in poor taste to go to a resort pool, lay some towels down, then go back to your room. If I see white towels on a chair at a resort pool, with NO other belongings and no one comes back to them in 20 minutes or so, I *may* think to claim those chairs. I would ask others seated in the area if they had seen anyone using the chairs in the recent past. But the whole point of getting to a water park at opening is to "set up camp" ...for the entire day, if you so choose.

No way am I going to forego riding things as a family with my DH and 9 year old DD just to save my seat from someone who showed up late and would be rude enough to handle my personal belongings. Sorry, RS, I always get a kick out of your list posts, but you are very wrong on this one. I would even bet money that the CMs at BB and TL would agree with me.

All right, to clarify what I am talking about is one chair with our towels and coverups. I think it's reasonable to assume that I would go do slides, etc, with my daughter and come back and expect our stuff to still be on the chair. Is the expectation that every time you get up (to get food...to go to the bathroom...to go on a slide...) that you should take all your stuff with you or put it in a locker, and than find a new chair each time? I doubt the majority of people are doing that and that seems unreasonable to me.

What you said :)

How can you tell who are the locals? I go quite often and I can't tell.

If you aren't going to use the lounge why take one for everyone? I see many many lounges with stuff on it and never see the people.

geez I am almost sorry I asked this question.

Obviously there are lots of different opinions about this. I am not going to worry about. I am not going to get a lock...that was a silly idea. My DD and I will get there at opening with our towels and coverups. I will buy one of those plastic card necklaces so I can hang onto our tickets. I will grab ONE chair (I always only grab one because my DD does not need her own, she spends all her time in the water). I will hope that someone doesn't come along while I am grabbing something to eat or going on a slide with my daughter and choose not to move my stuff.

Heh, listen for a british accent and sit by them. Ask them to mind your stuff.

It is the british way to then mind your stuff...........even if a tornado hits :thumbsup2

Actually we generally make contact with the peeps around us.....to establish a zone of defence ;)

funny I just found where I saw the locks mentioned...on this very website

It is Disney, but crimes do happen. If you leave your bag in your spot while you go slide or swim, then try to tie it to one of your chairs, or bring a lock and lock it to a chair. It is a lot harder to steal a bag if there is a chair attached to it.

but i have still decided I am going to skip it.

we just cable tie the rucksack to the lounger (harder to walk off with) and put a cable tie throught the zips of it. only valuables we take ar a few dollars for lunch and passes, these and the car keys all fit in a water proof box thing that hangs round your neck. one year we had our sun tan lotion and our books which we had left out stolen so every thing is put in said rucksack!
