??? Locking in ticket prices by booking now- what if FD is offered???

With ticket price increases looming on the horizon, I am trying to figure out the best course of action.
We are looking to take a trip in Sep this year, and hoping free dining may be offered.
I am thinking it would be best to secure a res now, locking in the lower ticket price.
Then when /if FD is offered, I can have it applied to my existing res.
My question is, will applying the FD code also change my ticket cost to the new ticket rate, or will the ticket prices, and room rates for that matter, be locked in still?

If you change an existing reservation to one under a new code, your reservation is subject to the pricing and conditions of the new code. So, reserving now is not going to "lock in" your ticket prices if you you change that reservation to one with free dining (or any other discount code) later.

If you initiate any change to a reservation, any tickets on the package will be adjusted to the current price.

If I remember right aren't package prices different than ticket prices? (ie- they change at different times.) I remember last year my package price did not change even though ticket prices increased.

Package prices are dependent on ticket prices.

If you book a package before Disney sets a ticket price increase, it doesn't affect your price. Disney honors the price that you booked under, although if you read the fine print, package prices are not guaranteed until paid in full.

But if a discount comes out and you "apply" the discount to an existing reservation, what you're actually doing is canceling the original reservation and replacing it with one that includes the new discount. So the package price would include tickets at the new price.

I booked a room only reservation through Dreams Unlimited Travel love for a ten night stay, then bought six day tickets through Undercover Tourist figuring that if need be, once I'd used the tickets the first day, if I needed to, I could add days on at Guest Services. When Free Dining came out my DUT agent simply rebooked the room for me as a package with two tickets for each of us (stayed at POFQ so they required 2 days each). So that gave me 8 days, which was ideal.

My UT tickets were park hoppers and the one through the package were not so I just used the package ones on days I knew there was no chance of us wanting to hop and the extra cost of buying the package tickets worked out to be less then $20 a day for us to eat...technically not "free" dining but good luck trying to feed yourself out of pocket for that!

I was happy with that!

Why didn't you add 2 days to your 6-day hoppers? Total upgrade cost $20+tax per person. Then you could have taken your 2-day package tickets home with you to be used on a future trip (they're fully upgradable), or legally sold to someone else. Did DUT agent know about the UT tickets?

Thank-you for the answers.
I had a feeling the process would be a cancellation of the first res and re-booking with the FD code, resulting in my losing the lower ticket price.

We will probably just buy some tickets thru UT now at the lower price, and book FD with 2-day base tickets if it comes out.

Oh I'm fully aware of how it's cheaper the more days you get but honestly we had enough going on in the time we were there that I didn't know if I'd even need 8 days (in the end it was a bit of a stretch). Yes, I could have had them separated from our KTTW card and used them for my next trip but it essentially boiled down to laziness and yes, my agent knew about the UT tickets.
