I hope this isn't true, but an Orlando business Journal article says Universal is in talks and close to a deal to sell the 1800 acre Lockheed Martin property to an Atlanta based retail developer. I was hoping Universal would develop this land with at least one more theme park. This is a total surprise. Although, this could be NBC's/GE's idea. I hope it doesn't happen!

ADP :(

I couldn't agree more (then again, who the heck is going to disagree?). If they want this park to be able to go completely toe-to-toe with Disney, they NEED that land. But the problem is with the whole owner issue - are the new bosses looking at the theme parks in a short-term or a long-term basis? The land reportedly cost $80 million. If this guy is so desperate to build another bunch of (expletive deleted) hotels and a golf course, maybe they can milk it for north of the amount.

Are they happy selling it off and making some fast cash? People look at the price tag on Islands (which is still not nearly as well respected as it should be - when I went last year, I hadn't heard much of anything about the park. It was just having a free ticket placed in my hand that made me go!), and they're going to be taken more than a little aback.

I just hope we're dealing with long term people, and not...well, not the folks who are running Disney now.

Yeah, if the suits are reading this, don't sell the land.

Gosh, I never visit outlet and strip malls when I drive up.

A theme park is needed to fill hotels, not a golf course.
