I have read many people talk about lockers at Universal. What exactly must be placed in the locker? Can I have a cross body bag or DLR Camera?

At many of the rides, you will be asked to put anything you are carrying in a locker. It is free to use for a predetermined time that it long enough for you to ride. You will put the camera and the crossbody bag in the locker. I keep my lanyard with tickets/express passes/etc. around my neck (tucked into my shirt for riding because I would rather not lose it), and if I have pockets, I sometimes carry my cell phone to take queue pictures. Some people wear running belts or small bags/fanny packs under their clothing that stay on them.

For big coasters, they use metal detectors before you ride, and you can't even have things in your pockets for those.

Yes, they are pretty big. We fit a small backpack, a purse, a wand with box, and miscellaneous purchases last trip.

With the exception of Rip Ride Rockit and the Hulk, you can carry on a fanny pack or waist bag that has a 3 prong clip. But a cross-body bag or backpack would need to go in the locker. The camera wouldn't be allowed on either, nor would you want to bring it on.

We found the lockers quick and easy to use, after I thought they'd be a hassle. Only time it was a hassle was Ripsaw Falls - locker usage for bags is not required on this ride, but they have lockers available. But since they aren't required, they cost something like $4. We ultimately paid it because you get drenched.

Also, you'll need it for Dragon Challenge and Men In Black :)

MIB doesn't allow fanny packs with the three prong clip? Dragon Challenge makes sense but I can't wrap my head around MIB.

MIB turns and whips a bit. A fair few times, they've had to completely stop the ride and turn on all the lights until the workers could find an object that had been flung off someone.
You might get a worker who lets you into the ride with a 3-prong, but there are at least 3 workers you get stopped by on this one. I have been told, every time I forgot, that everything but lanyards has to go in a locker.

We just got back and were able to put 2 small backpacks in a locker. I kept my cell phone and very small zipper pouch in my cargo pockets. Cargo pockets are a good thing. The seats/restraints fit tight in some of these rides and it may be uncomfortable to have anything attached. The lockers are in numbered sections like 1-10....the touch pad scans your finger print and gives you a locker number. When you return, you go to your section and use your finger print to open the locker back up. Take a photo with your cell if you have a hard time remembering your locker #. You are required to type the number back in on the screen. There are several rides that require the lockers and it can get confusing! It's a slight inconvenience but not too bad.

A few more locker pointers:

1.Pay attention to the screen. Once you have your locker #, move out of the way. Same thing when opening. The areas get backed up because people block the area much longer than is necessary. You do NOT need to block the screen once you have your locker.

2. Have ONE person in your party go to the lockers. Again that helps keep the area passable.

3. If you forget your locker #, some stations will let you find your locker by finger print; otherwise staff can help. Personally I focus on the LOCATION of my locker (perhaps more than the number). If I forget the number, I can just look at it.

4. Even though they are fairly roomy, the less you have to stuff, the better. Best is if you can avoid lockers completely. (or just the few places that won't allow any pocket stuff.) Going to lockers for every ride takes time.

5. If you have FotLA, a lanyard is the way to go for your pass. If you are a family, you can put two in one sleeve. Just make sure both bar codes are facing out. Oh, losing your FotLA card bites. There is a self help kiosk by the Jurassic Park lockers.

MIB allowed the fanny packs in Jan this year. The only rides that didn't were: Hulk, Rip Ride Rocket and Dragon Challenge.
