Hi everyone, I've searched high and low and can't seem to find the answer to my question. I realize standard rooms at AKL have a "parking lot" view, but what I'm interested in knowing is the actual location of these rooms. Do you get to every room via the lobby....or do you walk the trails to get to certain rooms? I guess what I'm getting at is do you have to walk a ways to get to the standard rooms. I may be 5 months pregnant and will need to take it easy so room location is very important to us.

Thanks all!

You can find a map of the AKL at

I would assume that any room that doesn't face a savannah or the pool would be considered a standard view (primarily rooms on Ostrich and Giraffe Trails, towards the bottom of the picture). Rooms are typically on both sides of each hallway, so standard and savannah views could be in the same hall.

Don't forget that you can call and/or fax the resort a few days before your arrival and request a specific room (no guarantees, of course). And it never hurts to ask if any complimentary upgrades are available (again, no guarantees).

I was at AKL this past May, so if you have any other questions, I'd be happy to share.

Have a great vacation and congrats and good luck with your pregnancy!

There is definately hope of an upgrade. I could only get a std view room with the code that I had at $139 per night. When I got there I asked for an upgrade and the CM said I was already in the system for a Pool View upgrade but she would upgrade me to a Savannah view. I know there are other viewing areas but this made our stay very special. Fantatic staff at AKL.

jsginmd. I am thinking of staying here next trip. My olderDD would like a balcony to veiw animals. The other DD would like to be right beside the pool. Is there a room location where you would be right beside the pool and have a veiw from your balcony of the animals...thanks... we stayed at WL last visit,,,would love to try AKL.. thanks...corvair amy

While there is a small fragment of savannah beyond the pool area which is visible from pool view rooms and public lookouts near the pool, I personally don't think there would be enough animal traffic to satisfy balcony viewing of them (although, when the animals get in that area, they are very, very close).

What are your expectations for "right beside the pool"? Our room (#2455) was just a short (1 floor down) elevator ride to the poolside. However, we were on the savannah side of the hall. The other side of the hall had a pool/water view. There are not any rooms that open right to the pool (I don't think) since the pool is on the first floor and all guest rooms start on floor #2.

Check out the map from the website I listed in my previous post. I'm sure you'll be able to find something that is a nice "happy medium" for everyone.

Good luck and have a great time!

PS. Haven't stayed at WL yet, but we did get a chance to go there and look around a bit (even got a peek at a room). It's on our list for future visits. You'll love the AKL. My biggest concern was transportation, but I was pleasantly surprised.

jsginmd. thanks for your help. Where your room was would be great. I checked out the map. It is kind of blurry, I could not read the room numbers. Were you facing the Zebra side? It kind of looks like you were near the Mura. This would be great. Did you have a good veiw from the second floor? Was there a name for the area of rooms you were in?? Near the pool and the animals and the mura, this would be great... thanks,,,corvair amy

corvair,

I'm not sure if there was a name for where we were. I had requested the Zebra Trail, which I suppose that little offshoot is a part.

Looking at the map, follow the Zebra Trail from the lobby past the first two blocks of rooms to the first triangle (elevator/vending). Make a right at that little offshoot wing and we had the first three rooms on the left hand side (facing the "Welcome Friends..." text on the map). There is a savannah there and the rooms on the opposite side of that hall face the pool.

We were on the second floor (lowest floor for guest rooms, savannah-side anyway) and our view was really great. I was worried about being in a corner, but we saw a lot of animals due to the food placed strategically throughout the savannah. There are a lot of trees, but being lower helped them not be a problem (good sightlines).

The pool and the Mara were a quick elevator ride away (down one floor). Don't know if you are interested, but Simba's Clubhouse (children's activity/daycare type area) and Pumbaa's Arcade are also right near that area.

I would think that any of the first three blocks of rooms directly on the Zebra Trail, plus that first offshoot, would satisfy everyone in your group. Savannah on one side. Pool on the other. With the elevators and restaurants nearby.

Hope that helped.

PS. Try printing the map out. I agree the numbers are a bit blurry, but printed they get a little clearer. The offshoot room numbers range from 1456-1481 (didn't think guest rooms were on the first floor  ), 2451-2486, 3451-3486, 4451-4486, 5451-5486. That's what it looks like from my printout. We had 2451, 2453 and 2455 which were the first three rooms on the left side (savannah) of the hallway in that offshoot.

Thanks, I found a map that was very clear. I know right where you were. Yes, this would be a great location for us.. thanks alot...corvair amy
