We'll be staying at the Vistana 8/2-16. Eating in the parks at lunch, mostly, and cooking dinner.

Where is a source around there for locally grown fruits and veggies (i.e. a farm stand, farmer's market, etc?

thanks!

Well, if you are adventurous, there are a couple of locals who tailgate just down 535, about 1.5 miles south of Vistana where the Central Florida Greenway crosses (usually one on either side of the road). I've never stopped to try them (we buy all our stuff at Publix) but they have been there every March since we have been going, and it all appears to be local and seasonal veg.

Vistana also holds a local market on site two afternoons a week. There is a fair bit of prepared food there, but sometimes some local produce too. The vendors are probably split about 1/3 food, 2/3 local crafts and garments.

Thanks to the PP. I am interested in this too.

We did go to an orange grove a couple of years ago, but it was the wrong season for them to have much, it was pretty forlorn. (Maybe "Showcase", does it have a u-pick?) Would love to go when something is in season but August isn't looking good from what I can see.

Celebration has a farmers market on a Sunday, last time we went there was a stall selling fruit and vegetables :)

I also thought of these entreprenurial folks on the side of the 535 under the 417 (I think) overpass. You can get a watermelon, maybe some berries and a rug.
I do think that traffic in this location is horrible and I have to wonder if having their stands on the side of the road is contributing to this....
But gotta love fresh fruits!

Not close enough for a special trip, but we usually drive over to Busch Gardens one day and always stop at the produce market at the same exit as Dinosaur World. Wonderful produce and usually decent prices.

I especially love it when we are there during strawberry season. You can buy a whole flat for a very good price. We eat them every day and freeze any surplus to bring home in our cooler.

Only once we saw a truckload of watermelons as we drove down hwy 27 toward WDW. The melon was very cheap and tasted great. We looked for him on our way out of town a week later to get another to take home, but he was no-where to be found. I love the roadside vendors!
