My local ABC station will break into programming for anything. They always predict such gloom and doom. A little snow = a debilitating blizzard. Seeing 10 news anchors standing in the snow really doesn't help.

Today it's a stolen car with a baby inside. Don't flame me! That is a serious thing. But this channel covers a HUGE viewing area. This particular breaking news is happening an hour away or more from my house. Every other channel is scrolling the info. This channel has been "LIVE ON THE AIR" for the past 45 mins. They are interviewing anybody and doing it badly. The one newscaster got so tongue-tied he had to stop talking to get past his sputtering. It is just annoying how they always break into programming.

Yes I'm missing my soap opera and that's why I'm so fired up. But they do this ALL the time. A snowflake comes down crossways, thunder 300 miles away, the sky is falling chicken little. Just watch Channel 5 in Cleveland. They will tell you all about how the sky is falling!!!!!!!!!!!!

UDPATE: They found the baby ~ wonder how long until we go back to regular programming. An hour or more I guess. They will keep going to all their reporters, updating, blah, blah blah. I hate this channel. I never watch their news anymore. Too sensational.

and if it was your child I am sure you would want them to call out the Marines.
I know I would

I hear ya! So frustrating. Thankfully I have satellite so I flipped it over.

Sherry-Did you tape???? I'll pay money for a tape. :)

And yes I'd want the Marines out for my child. It's not todays tragedy just the channel in general.

Yet on the other hand they will say things like...

What common household product is in your home right now and can kill your kids? Watch at 11 to find out.

Uhhhh?

Heck, it's even more annoying for people like me that work at these tv stations and have to run around like chickens with their heads cut-off every time they want to break in! ARGH!!!

A few monthes ago, George Bush was flying into Fort Bragg (Fayetteville - I think, I'm a native NC'er, I should know this - right?) Anyway, I was trying to watch Regis & Kelly and they interrupted for 45 minutes to show Air Force 1 LANDING!!! Not George Bush, but just the plane landing - who gives a rats #@*! As far as amber alerts and all go, they should interrupt to give detailed info - notice I said DETAILED INFORMATION, run a ticker across the bottom and do an update every 15 minutes or so, but don't just interview every Joe Blow that's walking down the street. I remember last year, there was a high speed chase, a man had kidnapped his ex-wife, dropped their kids off @ a convenient store or something. They aired this chase on all channels for about 2 hours, very sad, the man ended up shooting ex-wife and himself, luckily that part didn't make it on tv.

Pembo,

I totally agree about channel 5. I stopped watching them a long time ago when they spent about 5 min. showing them performing CPR close up on a Cleve. city counselman who had a heart attack during a meeting. That poor family. I called the station right then and there and the put me through to the control booth! I told them what I thought and I never watch their news now. I know they don't care but I think you have to have some standards here.

So...I guess it is good I gave up soap operas too. I don't miss the interruptions. Nothing made me madder than coming home from a long day at work and settling down after the kids were sleeping to watch my soaps only to find an hours worth of taped news drama.

I agree with Channel 5, especially the breaking weather report. However, since I can't stand watching Dick Goddard and Eileen McShea, I guess Channel 5 is all I have to watch.:teeth:

you should see some of the stations here when i's raining, they sometimes blown things out of wack and it's not even a big storm(when they should go overboard)

Same here with the weather in Kansas. I live in the biggest city in the state. Therfore, almost all the smaller towns are affiliated with our local stations. This means that if there's a big storm say 150 miles west, we'll get all the maps and radar while the show we are watching is reduced to a little corner of the screen:rolleyes: It's especially bad in the spring and summer.

I hear ya, girlfriend! You're preaching to the choir with me. My local ABC affiliate is the same way. Thank goodness I finally got SoapNet. :p

What show do you need? Just AMC or do you want OLTL too since today was the big "2 hour episode"? I only have AMC recorded right now off of ABC but I can record both of them tonight off of SoapNet if ya want. PM me your snail mail address and I'll be happy to send it to you. :)

I know what you mean about channel 5. I agree on the point that they over do it sometimes. I dont feel they need to do constant coverage when theres a snowstorm. Just need to know when its coming how big it is. If have you lived for any amount of time in NE Ohio you should know how to deal with snow.
But when it comes to things like tornados (prime tornado season is now here) which are an ever changing situation I think I would like to know whats happening even if it interupts my fav program. The show will have reruns. If the warning saves one life then its worth it.

just 2 summers ago after the flood it was all any of the news stations talked about.Ok,that was ok but why does a little rain when that's all sets a weatherman off

Pembo,
I was just watching channel 5 and they said they will air the soaps tonight after Jimmy Kimmel show.

Thanks Shutterbug, too bad I didn't check this thread earlier. I e-mailed the station about when they were going to replay the shows. I checked my e-mails up until about 9pm. Never heard a thing. This morning I log on and lo and behold there is an e-mail, sent at 10pm LAST night that they were replaying the shows at 1 am. So I still missed. Luckily I have a friend ;) with Soapnet!

The spring weather alerts are annoying too! Channel 5 is the worst! And then when it's storming like crazy at my house, I'll flip on the tv and there will be nothing! I hate when that happens.

They should have a guide when they do this:

Breaking news that will effect your life

Breaking news that will not effect your life

Breaking news just to piss you off.....

If they could flash that on the screen first at least we could turn it off if needed!!!
