Anyone have any suggestions for some "local" (non chain, one-of-a kind) restaurants around the Orlando, Kissimmee, or Celebration area? Our vacation rule-of-thumb is to not eat at a chain restaurant that we have at home, but to try one-of-a kind local establishment. Any good suggestions and what is their specialty? Thanks!

Hi, we refuse to do chains for the 3 months we are there, so here are a few favorites...
Town Tavern in Downtown Celebration...best onion rings ever...reasonable prices, great sandwiches or for a little more $$ fresh fish flown in every day.

The Pub on highway 27 less than a mile south of I-4 West exit. It on the west side of 27 in a big green building. Very British place with great Sherherds Pie, Fish and Chips and lots of American Fare.

Mexican...Vallarta, on Apopka Vineland road a mile north of Disney Entrance on far east end by Hotel Row and Downtown Disney. Take I-4 to 535 or Apopka Vineland or exit Disney by DDisney via hotel row. Turn left out of Disney and go about a mile. On your right will be a little strip mall with big Giordono's Pizza. Vallarta is right next to Giordono's. Small family owned and very good. http://www.urbanspoon.com/r/26/303874/restaurant/Disney-Lake-Buena/Vallarta-Mexican-Grill-2-Orlando

Hope this helps for starters...Ted

TooJay's is a really good homestlye deli. You can get food to take out, eat in as well as just get different breads! They aren't where you are looking for but up near Universal just off SandLake Blvd.. near Apoka-Vineland area.
