Saddam thanks his country for re-electing him. To show his gratitude he sets free political prisoners.

The news showed them releases hundreds of prinsoners from a jail and had a quick statement that he is trying to round up men for an U.S. forced military action.

It is all so crazy.:(

I had to wornder about this one myself. How in the world is it a thank you to the country to release hundreds of criminals into their midst? I don't think I would be very thankful when the crime rate escalated. Of course if most of the people released weren't true criminals and shouldn't have been incarserated in the first place then it is a different story but saddam still doesn't come out looking good in that version because then he's admitting to putting innocent people behind bars.

What killed me was the announcement that Hussein received 100% of the vote. Give me a break! Can you imagine anyone living to vote against him!

My dh works with a lady from Iraq. She says Saddam is a complete nutcase and hopes we do overthrow him. She said the whole country is poor and depressed and is definately afraid of Dictator Saddam.

First of all, I believe that Saddam was the only one running in his election. Secondly, those detained are not necessarily hardened criminals since they detain you for many non-criminal actions in those types of countries.

I saw something about this on the news this morning..... it said that whenever anyone close to him had/has good ideas or he feels threatened he either has them killed or thrown in prison. And these are the people he's letting out of jail to fight for him now? I hope they turn on him.
