Local Disney Store - no bags!!!

I went to our local Disney store in early December, and I was told that they're no longer giving out bags! They did have the re-useable ones for purchase. Just wondering if my local shop was just out, or is it everywhere? And will the parks begin a no-bag policy? (can't imagine being at the parks and not being prepared to carry out everything - no bag!)

Ours has been that way for about a year. I always forget to bring one and just haul my purchases out with the hubs. I dunno if the parks are like that but I have big thin fabric bags I buy online that I'm tucking into my park backpack just in case.

I'll be darned if they strongarm me into paying for one of those terrible reusable ones. I've thrown so many away when the tarplike stuff tears or cracks.

Yes, it was a super annoying surprise for me last month.

It’s been this way for some time now. FWIW the bag my DD bought there last year is pretty nice and has held up well. She’s been using it to deliver cookie tins to her friends.

We both have gotten in the habit of carrying reusable bags that fold into a neat little square. More and more places are encouraging reusable bags and I’ve found it’s not that big of a deal to carry around. Bonus with using those is you can carry Christmas presents right past the recipient and they have no idea.

As of late November Disneyland still had bags but also had reusables for sale. I bought one but don’t like it. We just tossed stuff we bought in our backpacks with the receipt.

Has been the same here at ATL for a while, too. The bags are fairly nice and large for a buck, it's not a big deal to me. I use them for all sort of things.

My town is banning single use bags starting January 1. I have reusable bags in my trunk, and currently often forget to bring them into stores. But at least I can return to the car to get them. However, sometimes when I am walking I remember something I need and stop at a store. Since I don’t plan to always carry a reusable bag around with me, maybe those unanticipated stops will become a thing of the past.

I bought some mouse ears back in September and was told that they didn't have any bags. Since I was in the mall and going to be shopping all day, I bought the 99 cent bag, which was fine.

Bought plenty of merchandise in the parks this past November and they used plastic bags generously.

My state is close to banning them.

CT now makes you pay for bags. The plastic bags are still available at most stores, but you have to pay for each one you use. Big Y (local grocery chain) has stopped plastic bag use entirely - they charge for paper bags or you can buy/bring reusable bags.

Listen I am all for being environmental and using reusable bags when I do a planned shopping trip, for example, to a grocery store. It was an insane amount of plastic that was wasted there in the past. Fir each shopping trip I would bring home approx 10 plastic bags. But then again I would always reuse these for many reasons for example packing dirty shoes, garbage bags in the bathroom. for me they were never single use. Banning all single use bags Is just another Example how extreme things are today. There is no middle ground, pragmatic approach. God forbid I happen to be strolling about town and decide to buy a sweater at a store, now I’m forced to either buy a bag, or have a single use banned or force to spend money on a “environmental bag” that is actually doing more damage to the environment than a single use bank. Do your research. Maybe people just weren’t brave enough to actually looking to wear plastic really is being wasted. Just looking to our grocery cabinets and see how much plastic is used in packaging food.

Honestly, how would you suggest packaging food? In cardboard boxes? Most food containers are recyclable, and since plastic is coded, it's possible to just not purchase products packed in non-recyclable plastic.

Even "tin" (aluminum) fans are frequently plastic-lined. With more and more cities and towns, and even states, banning plastic or single-use bags, it's not unreasonable to expect consumers to be aware, even prepared. Agreed. Eventually people are going to have to adapt it’s happening whether we like it or not. I have bags similar to these and it’s really no big deal to toss them in my bag on the way out the door or stick one in my pocket. The ones I use have loops so you can even put them on your keychain. If I use them at Target w/Circle I get .05 for using them. Not a windfall but better than having to pay for using plastic bags.
