Local bands from my younger years (anyone else remember?)

Here's a bunch bands from upstate NY:

Buxx--The only one I know the whereabouts of (kind of) is Al DeGrange, I know he stopped playing and started a home security company that he recently sold for a nice profit. He's still friends with Bruce Evans from...

Alpha Centori. Andy Knoll the keyboard player now plays with Lou Graham, and Steve the guitarist plays with a local Utica area cover band called The Bomb. Bruce plays with a band called Decades out of Grand Rapids.

Acts from the Binghampton area--let's see, Mike is a CPA in that area still, Donny Wilkins stil plays a solo one man thing in the area, Bill Davis has played with a bunch of different bands, most notably Foghat, Matt Barnes writes songs for country artsists and plays with Jan Brown, and Jeff Howel still plays the Ithaca area with various bands snd does some studio work. They do a reunion every once in a while.

Triffid, Alan Payette is teaching guitar in the Schenectady area, original drummer Joey Bell went on to sing with Anthrax, no idea about any of the others.

Talas--Billy Sheehan of course has gone on to various solo projects and David Lee Roth, and Mr. Big. Phil Naro was at one point singing with Coney Hatch and is still working in Canada. No idea on the others.

Todd Hobin still does shows around central NY every now and then.

805--Porter does a duo thing in central NY and Albany with another guy (google Dave Porter 805 and you'll ind their web site.) His best friend is a really good friend of mine, so I still get lots of info about them. Briggs does session work in LA and has written some books on drumming. Creamo has been in and out of a ton of projects, and at one point was working as a chef if I recall.

Alecstar--wow those guys got old. I saw a few of them in another band that they started a couple years ago, they should jsut forget about it.

NY Flyer--????

The Works--George Rossi went on to be one of the house musicians at Pay O'Briens, he fled NOLA before Katrina and is still in the central NY area. Ed Hamell does a solo thing as Hamell on Trial--he's hysterical! He's got about half a dozen CD's out on Righteous Babe--Ani DeFranco's label and tours with Ani a lot. He was critically injured ina car wreck about six years ago. No idea where Mike and Jay are.

Blotto--Cheese passed away ten years or so ago due to a heart problem. Broadway works on LI in social work. Sarge was a columnist for Metroland for years, not sure what he's up to now. Lee Harvey became a lawyer specializing in environmental law. Bowtie is an accountant. Their longtime crew: Rikk is in Nashville, happily married, managing a couple country acts and still tour managing now and then. Dale is down here in Florida but that's all I'm supposed to tell anyone (long story but nothing bad). Bruce passed away in 1984 from a heart defect.

I can't think of any others, but if you can name them I can probably tell you where at least one of them are.

Foghat was my first concert. I think they played with Eddie Money. This was in south Florida in the late 70s..

New England Bands:

8084--Charlie died in a car wreck coming home from a gig on New Years probably ten years ago now. Andre, Gary, and Randy are still in 8084 and still play around Vermont. They either just did or are jsut about to relelase a CD of original material.

Jimmy Carter Band/Run 21, Stet Howland has played with a ton of different bands, including WASP, IMPELLITTERI, Belladona, and a bunch more. No idea what Jimmy is doing, Doug I heard soemthing about maybe a year ago, but have forgotten. If anyone really cares I know who I heard it from so I can find out.

Tangram/Vice/Rob Allen band. These guys do a reunion every now and then. Most of those guys are out of the music business entirely. The lead guitarist is still playing around New England, and Rob Rock is in a Christian metal band based out of central Florida who has found a lot more success overseas than he has here.

Chris Impelletiri--I'm mentioning him seperate because I think he played with jsut about every hard rock/metal band from MA and CT over the years. He's still out there playing with different bands, I think living in LA now.

The Dream--went on to become Extreme. 'Nuff said.

Megaforce--the band that Joey Belladini resurfaced in shortly after he left Triffid but before Anthrax--to my knowledge, none of them ever went anywhere with thier careers, although one of the guys is still workign in live production.

I know I've forgotten a TON of great bands, including one from maybe the Pittsfield/Springfield area with two sisters in the band.

A few other miscellaneous acts...

Madam X--After this band broke up, sisters Maxie and Roxy formed Vixen, and singer Sebastian Bach of course went on to front Skid Row.

Harpo out of central PA--bassist Jack Piers went on to form Dirty Looks who put out a CD on Atlantic or Capital, and had one song that got some airplay ("Cool From the Wire"), but never really went anywhere. (Jack's best friend ultimately formed one of the most acclaimed boutique booking agencies in the US and handles some *hot* acts)

There was also another band out of...I think NH, called Rosie. Hank Decken, the guitarist went on to form Nevada Beach who were signed to, um I think Metal Blade and released a couple of CD's, but never really went anywhere. They were three days behind Extreme and Alice In Chains on every date in September/October 1989--playing almost the exact same itinierary.

One of the other guys from Rosie I think went on to do something, but my brain is beginning to hurt from thinking about it all.

Hooters (saw them at Martz Hall in Pottsville waaaaay back when)

Sterling Cooke Force (betcha nobody has ever heard of them:rolleyes1 )

Dead Milkmen (http://www.deadmilkmen.com/)

Strawberry Jam, Psycho Bettie (I think they were called "Fallacy" in the 80's) and Trim Hedges (local cover bands Back in the Day)

Kix (I forgot about them:upsidedow )

I need to think of some more:idea:

UGH! You guys got my mind working and now I can't get it to stop!

A few others...

MASS, from Massachusetts. I think they were emntioned on the DIS in another thread within the past few months.

There was a band from the Springfield, MA area. I can't remember their name--it's driving me CRAZY! But the singer's name was Livio.

Another Upstate NY band--Ithaca area I think--Icewater Mansion. Their claim to fame was HUGE production, and a song called "Music Go Round" that was a total rip off of a Tom Petty tune. Totally a case of "If you can't play, at least be loud and flashy."

And another Albany area metal band--Blacksmith who featured a chick singer--Heidi Black and guitarist Dave Smith.

You're so OLD! :rotfl: :rotfl:

I'm just teasing. I am laughing though, thinking that many of the bands we are all talking about have been around (or come and gone) in the 15-25 years ago range, and you've popped in with a band from a few years back. Shows you the diversity in ages on the Dis! And sorry, I do'nt recall that band... :hippie:

I'm trying to remember more, but it's so long ago, plus I was usually two sheets and a few er, well we won't say here on the dis, but gone might be a nice way of putting it :lmao: !

I was the talent buyer for a club in Albany, NY, and almost every one of the bands mentioned passed through our doors or those of our sister club at one point in time or another. Because I also had to pay the bands at the end of the night most of the time, I had to stay sober. Of course AFTER the bands were paid, things were a bit different. I remember sitting at the bar at 5:00 am downing Fireballs with Talas' crew more than once... ugh. Thank God my office was upstairs and there was a nice sofa to crash on...

Lucky for me I met my husband. I like to tease him that he saved me from a life of rock and roll:rolleyes1 .

Foghat was from LI?

I thought they were British. Didn't they have their roots with Savoy Brown?

Yes and no. The original line-up were Brits and the remains of Savoy Brown, but as members left they were often replaced with Americans.

The Dead Milkmen!

Love them!

I thought Punk Rock Girl and Instant Club Hit You'll Dance to Anything was fantastic. I just heard You'll Dance to Anything on XM and amazingly I knew all the words even though I haven't heard them in 20 years!

I also loved the song Witchin Camaro. Well, not exactly witchin but you can figure it out.

John Eddie- last I saw he was playing at the Quarterdeck Inn at Long Beach Island a few years back. I actually have his cassette somewhere as well.
.

I love John Eddie. His early stuff was so much fun and he's great to see live. He has a website, you should google it.

He had a hit song on XPN a couple of years ago. I would love to go see him again.

I also liked Glenn Burtnick and John Cafferty.

Another from Delaware...George Thorogood. Bad to the Bone:love: My girlfriends and I used to stalk him all over the tri-state area:rotfl:
