Local Authoritys!

Sorry havnt been around for a while, Im exhausted all the time lol but hey 11 weeks to go.

Just wanted to know if anyone else deals with a local council for payments?

Im a childminder, one little one I have is council funded for three six hour days a week.

This is paid weekly and seems to be about 6 weeks in arrears, I called the payment department Monday to see why I didnt receive my remittance last Friday for payment Due this Tuesday just gone. They said sorry and it had been left on a desk, I said ok whens it gonna be paid the said I would get the remittance today for payment next Tuesday ten another remittance Monday and another Thursday (as they have messed a few up by the looks).

Well suprise suprise no remittance today, so no payment Tuesday (these are sent via e mail). I am really cross, I am sure they arnt meant to be six weeks behind. And also do they think i work for free I do have bills to pay!!

Does anyone know the timescales for local authority payments? I was thinking its 30 days in arrears (including weekends) so affectively a month.

I am starting to think I should never work for the council again as its been so much hassle!!

Just wanted to say that although I can't answer any of your questions, I hope you get it sorted soon!! And only 11 weeks to go - it has gone so quickly - but not for you I guess. Good luck with getting your money, and with all things baby

payment made my LA's have to go through a series of checks before payment is made to prevent fraud entering the system. So the sevice that ordered your 'service'- (I am assuming 'childrens and young persons') has to raise a request for payment. This then goes to another person for authorisation. Once authorised this is then refered to a payment clerk in creditors to action., which is then checked again! It could be sat on anyones desk for ages!!!!! at any of these stages.

If you haven't had it soon I suggest you chase it with the member of staff that arranged the childcare, my guess is that they were late in passing the payment through in the first place, social service dept's. don't tent to be too hot on the financial side of things IMO.( after all their priority is the wellbeing of the kids )

Hope you get it sorted soon. The good news is that once you are in 'the system' your payments should be regular.

Hiya thanks for the advice, I have been in the system since February and have been paid regular for a coupld of months it just seems to have gone awol now
