Loaning/borrowing on a Nook?

One of the easiest ways to find free ebooks, is to check out http://booksontheknob.blogspot.com/. Also, usually whatever you come across of Amazon for free (which I think is easier to search for free books since you can sort by price) - just check Barnes & Noble and it will usually be free there too. Also, when you are looking at a free ebook on Amazon, look at the bottom of the page where it shows "Customers Who Bought This Item Also Bought"- usually they will all be free as well.

I agree with Cindy that there are so many good free ebooks out there that I am having a hard time getting though all of them. Don't bother looking in the B&N "free" ebook section- it is worthless for entire free ebooks, it is usually all samples. www.nookboards.com is another place to find out about free ebooks.

Have fun!

how long are books usually available for free? i see a couple of books on booksontheknob i'd like to d'l, but my nook hasn't arrived yet (just shipped yesterday).

As I understand it the 3G feature on the Nook is for downloading books from B&N only. Only Kindle allows web browsing on 3G. Perhaps the newest Sonys, too.

Thanks for the information! Am I correct in my understanding that you can also surf the internet through the Nook if it is the 3G version?

No, you cannot surf the net using 3G on the Nook. It is only for ordering books directly from B&N. You can surf the net using the WI-FI if you have access to a connection.

Sometimes they are available for a very short time all the way to weeks/months, etc. but- you can actually just get them now. Create a Barnes and Noble account and "buy" them now. They will send you an email with a link to download to your computer, but you can do nothing and just wait until you have your Nook. When you have your Nook, it will download directly to you Nook once you register your Nook with B&N (use the same account info). I think that it will do it automatically, if not there is an option that says "Look for new Barnes & Noble content" on your Nook and it will download then. It is really simple and it will make a lot more sense when you actually have your Nook. I used to get so confused when people talked about how it all worked. It really is user-friendly.

We don't have a Nook, but a Kindle. The customer service is outstanding. Daughter downloaded a book in error, no issues getting the refund. They even wanted to let us keep the book of no charge, but I said no thanks.

Screen messed up, called and had a new Kindle on my doorstep in less than 24hrs. I didn't even ask for it to be fast, just wanted it fixed.

They have made me a loyal Kindle customer with their customer service :)

I've received the same customer service from Barnes & Noble regarding the Nook. I've been extremely happy and very satisfied with the customer service I've received.

I am completley in the dark about both Nook and Kindle. Do you have to have WiFi at home in order to download books? My mom is a fanatical reader but does not have WiFi.

If you have 3G you don't need WiFi to download your books. I do have the WiFi Nook tho and it's very easy to use. :)

I have the WiFi Nook so yes, I can surf the net but it's not the easiest so I just use our laptop for that instead. I did love that while we were camping I was able to buy a new book when I finished my other one. :) Downloaded right to the Nook by the campfire.

I've never used the Lend Me feature but I think it stinks that you can only lend it once. :(

Also for the free books I simply do a search on B&N.com for $0.00 books and I find a lot, you can usually tell from the description if they are free or not.

We have both my husbands books and my books on our nook account and we both have access to all the books in the library. This could get tricky if you were trying to manage the pay portion of the account with somebody outside the house but since you get a confirmation immediately for all purchases free or paid you would know who ordered what and when.....

thank you! i actually got my nook by mistake-placed a duplicate order when i ordered one for DD, and now i guess we'll each have one, because i hate doing returns for things i buy online, lol.

WOW! i did this and there are over 50,000 free books! how in the world do you find the type of book you want?

On the side there should be options for categories. For example, I like romance novels so I chose Romance.

you know, i tried that, and the thriller category was full of historical novels, lol. i didn't realize "the jungle book" was a thriller! there are some good historical novels on there i think my DD will be interested in.

ok, guys, i need HELP! my nook came today, and i was trying to d'l the two free books i found yesterday (already purchased on my bn account). i don't know what i'm doing wrong. the nook is on, i d'l the books from my bn account to my computer, opened up my d'l folder and the nook folder, dragged and dropped them both from my d'l folder to the "my b&n downloads" sub-folder. okay, so when i try to d'l them on the nook, all it says is "starting" then "queued...will start shortly". what am i doing wrong?

OK,. I still need help on finding the 0.00 priced books. I hit the free nook-books and found 5 pages worth. Is there more? Where do you type the 0.00 at? Help me!! I'm confused!!

in the search bar up top, type in "0.00 books". that's what i did, and i got over 50,000 results!

Have you registered you Nook yet? That is the only thing that I can think of. I'm not really familiar with side loading B&N content since I just use the wi-fi or 3G.

Thanks so much for all the info. Now I am going to my local library's website to check out the e-books. I have the app on my IPad for Kindle, Nook and the Border one, and bought many books, but never checked out the e-books from the library.

anyone ever d'l free e-books from smashwords.com? i did a search for "free teen ebooks" earlier and it was the 2nd site listed. obooko.com was listed first. anyone use it?

I have.... It is easy, just need ADE to sideload the books into your nook. It is easy to do and the books have been great.
