Loaner toll road transponders

BY THE WAY:

The Central Florida Expressway Authority is piloting a new automated toll payment solution for select visitors to Florida traveling between May 1 - August 1, 2019 and renting a car from the Orlando International Airport called Visitor Toll Pass™.

if you didn't go to the link . . . or missed the article where it said 3 month trial . .

I have NO PROBLEM calling that gouging. I understand having to pay the rental company a small fee in addition to the actual toll (though really, just paying the toll should be enough), but to have to pay an extra charge EVERY day of my rental if I happen to need it one time? Crazy. The fact that somewhere in the paperwork they tell you how outrageous they are doesn't change anything. They sure don't put it on the $X/day on the website where you made the reservation.

Agreed 110%. Even if they made you write out the charging structure in your own handwriting on the rental agreement, charging a one time toll use a daily charge for every single day the car was in your possession is price gouging!

Back home and here to report back!

Everything was mostly smooth. There really aren't kiosks at the airport. I had made my reservation and it said to go to the kiosk. Really, it's just a lady standing next to a sign next to the elevators across from the rental car company. I very nearly passed her, but I stopped to ask her where the kiosk was!

Here's the deal, if you are going to turn in your car and get another after your cruise, don't mention it to them. The lady got WAY confused and was trying to tell me I couldn't do it and it was a HUGE problem. She finally called a supervisor was like, "that's fine!" So I think there's a bit of a learning curve. Just smile and get the transponder and move on.

Then, after you get your email the your rental car plate has been registered, keep that email, it has a link in it. Once we handed in our rental at port, I clicked the link and removed the license plate for that car. Now, it wanted me to put in a NEW plate, but I didn't have a new plate (as I was getting onboard a ship that day) but it let me put in "XXXXXX"

Then, when I got back from my trip, I clicked the same link and put in the license plate number for the new car. No problem! About a week after I got home, I got an email that they were charging my card. I checked the activity with that same link and everything looked on the up and up. No problems and so much cheaper than using the rental car company toll charges and not having to stop at a booth for cash was so nice. Recommended!

I forgot about this thread, but just saw the update from anricat. We used this last month and it was pretty smooth as well. We had a one way from MCO to the port and then we switched rental cars and companies for the one way back from the port to MCO. I couldn't change the rental car company online when I tried to update to the new license plate number, but I called the toll free number and she was able to update it for me. It was very nice. You drop off the placard in a mailbox at the airport and go on your way. Unfortunately we were billed for a lost placard - they said it was never returned, but when I called them up they said they would look for it in the mailbox and lo and behold they found it (they must empty those mailboxes only once every few weeks?). They then credited my credit card on file. So, there are a few minor hiccups, but overall very worth it!!

Does anyone know if the Florida visitors toll pass has continued after the original August first end date.

I would be interested in trying this in November for our trip.

I just used the visitor toll pass last week. Reserved on line. Picked up pass and gave my credit card #. They were located on the way out the door from rental car desks, and there was no line. They gave me a placard that hung from the mirror. Charged tolls and only tolls to my card. Dropped it off in a box on the way into the terminal from rental car drop off. Would have charged me $10 if I had forgotten to return the tag. Total cost to and from airport in tolls which included me milling around looking for gas before returning the car, was $6

As another poster early on in the thread mentioned I also got my own SunPass as we travel in Florida pretty often (we live in NY). I just ordered a SunPass at their website and it was sent to me. I just bring it with me each time I travel to Florida and put in my rental car and never have to worry about the cashless tolls. It was so easy and convenient.
