'Lizzie McGuire' Star, Disney Part Ways

LOS ANGELES - The star of the Disney Channel's hit "Lizzie McGuire" sitcom and its spin-off film is parting ways with the company that catapulted her to fame.

After weeks of negotiations over the future of 15-year-old Hillary Duff's career, the two sides confirmed Friday that they have split, the Los Angeles Times reported Saturday.

Disney was eager to hold on to the profitable "McGuire" franchise, but Duff wanted to move beyond the role as the awkward but cute middle-schooler that has brought her a devoted following among "tweens" — children ages 9 to 14.

And the Houston native reportedly wanted more for an expanded TV series and movie sequel than Disney was willing to pay. She received $1 million for the first "Lizzie" film.

"We very much wanted to continue the Lizzie franchise," said Disney Studios production chief Nina Jacobson, "but every deal has its tipping point, the point at which it no longer makes sense. Unfortunately, that's the point we reached in the Lizzie negotiations."

The actress is shooting the 20th Century Fox film "Cheaper by the Dozen" and begin work on the Warner Bros. film "Cinderella Story" next month.

A fast forward headline, 4 years from now: "Former Child Star, Duff, to Pose in Playboy" ;)

My kids watch this stuff non stop...they will be disappointed that there will be no more new shows....

That's too bad. The Lizzie Mcguire show is a big hit in our household.

I think Disney made a huge mistake on that one. I really like that show. She's just adorable. I could have followed that one along for years...just like Boy Meets World. I enjoy that show more now than when they were kids!

I saw the Lizzie movie today with my sister, her family and my DS. We all loved it!!! BIL stayed home, though

What a shame! Lizzie McGuire is a big hit in out house too!

Speaking as an old-school (pre-teenybopper-makeover) Disney Channel fan, I can only wonder if the cast of "Kids Incorporated" ever made demands for a million dollars?

Or the kids from "Avonlea"?

Or the kids from "Danger Bay"?

Or...

Okay, okay, back to modern times. They should've given her the cash...Judging from the screaming-mimi teenyboppers that bought into her stuff for almost half-a-decade, it would've been worth it.

"Greed, for lack of a better word, is good!"-Michael Douglas as Gordon Gekko in "Wall Street"

Sincerely,

John "anotherboardnposter" Kilduff

Sorry to disagree but I'm glad they've parted ways.....now if only we could get rid of Even Stevens, scale back Boy Meets World and Sister, Sister, and bring back Vault Disney, all would be right with the world.
