Lix & Shawn take on camping - our night at The Fort

'Ohana was our favorite meal of the trip. The food was excellent - Shawn said the best steak he's ever had (but he prefers well done steak).

If you ask them, they will cook a skewer of the meat any way you want. We went to Ohana a couple of years ago with a friend that only eats burnt beef and they made two full skewers of it for him that way and he LOVED it.

Awesome! Thanks! That's really good to know - I will pass it on to DH so he can ask about the other types of skewers. IIRC I think he thought one of the others was a little too done.

Last update!

On the way back to our site, we saw people at the sooper sekrit fishing spot.

I thought the mirror was interesting.

And I bet most of you have seen this before:

This guy almost fell on DH's head while we were packing up the car:
360.JPG

We were running close on time, so we packed up the tent first, just to make sure it was empty if they came to take it down, then went to shower and change. With our wet-from-swimming towels. Tsk.

We were still at the site a little after 11am, and I think checked out at 11:30am, but no one said anything to us about it.

If we could've stayed another night, I would've tried to talk DH into it.

I didn't want to leave. :sad1:

After checkout, which took less than 30 seconds, I think, we went back to Epcot for some more Food & Wine fun. I was a little hungry so I grabbed some empanadas from La Catina de San Angel. The outside seating was full, so they were seating people in the Hacienda.

Those chips are delicious. I think in the future I'd pick the nachos over the empanadas. The empanadas just seem to be thickly pressed corn tortillas with mozzarella cheese inside, sealed and fried.

DH got the Lobster & Scallolp Fisherman's Pie from Ireland and Chicken Souvlaki from Greece. The pie was his favorite thing of the four he sampled, the souvlaki his second.

After strolling the World Showcase for a while, next up was Whispering Canyon Cafe for dinner. We actually spent a while just hanging out at Wilderness Lodge. We saw 10+ deer near the entrance. It was crazy. I spent some time knitting, and DH caught up on sports things on his phone.

At dinner time, I was pretty full still, so I didn't eat much. We shared a skillet (I ate a piece of corn and some mashed potatoes), I got my own gluten free cornbread, and ordered sheriff's shakes. Everyone sung Happy Birthday, which was embarrassing. But cute. I had the fruit plate for dessert, but I just ate a couple pieces off of it.

The shakes were great.

The cornbread was awesome.

DH loved the ribs.

Otherwise it was just okay.

After dinner it was time to rush over to Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party.

This didn't go as well as I'd hoped. But it was still a good time.

The crowds were pretty awful. It hadn't rained so it was really hot. And, did I mention it was really crowded? I had made my costume and it had been pretty much demolished by the crowds before we even got through the gate.

We watched the first parade:

The parade was awesome. I loved the grave diggers. Pretty much none of our pictures came out. But the song still gets stuck in my head sometimes when I'm least expecting it!

I had a good spot for fireworks, but DH wanted to move up to here where we basically couldn't see much. I'm glad we'd seen them from the Poly the week before. :thumbsup2 The castle effects were pretty good from where we were.

And then it was time to go home. :sad2:

We will probably do MNSSHP again next year. On a day when we are just driving over. At around 2pm. Well rested. Wearing costumes involving fewer layers.

Of course, my favorite part of everything was the Fort. And we didn't get to do enough there. At all. So we have tentatively planned another trip for the 22nd-28th of October for next year!! :yay: DH has said it was okay with him as long as he could get the time off from work.

Oh, wait. That's how long again?

Sigh.

Thanks for reading along if you made it this far. It has been great being able to relive things like this. I hope it was at least somewhat enjoyable as I have enjoyed reading so many trip reports here. :lovestruc

Wonderful TR! Thanks so much for sharing -- you covered all the must-haves -- wildlife, food, parades, campsite, rides, random ice machines...good stuff! :thumbsup2

Just got caught up and read through your TR in one sitting! Great photos. What a sweet looking couple you two are!

The rental tent is very interesting to me. We will be there over the July 4th holiday next year, but I would also like to work in a very short Oct visit as well....and I would LOVE to just take the tent for that one. You made it look like loads of fun!

Congrats on conquering your roller coaster fears. Some of them now make DH sick so I'm always on the hunt for a partner. ;)

P.S. (I'm quirky too,but don't tell anyone)

Well, Alix, you did a fantastic job!

I like how you got two full days of fun out of a one night stay!

We have done that on occasion as well, but we usually will stay in a hotel when we are taking one of those type trips.

And, congratulations on scoring the return trip! It sounds like your DH is coming around.

Next thing you know, y'all will have an RV!

Awesome report Alix! You guys squeezed so much into 2 days, I'm very impressed. I agree with sleeping well at the Fort, DH, not so much. He's not as big on camping as I am. Actually he likes camping, its the sleeping in a tent part he isnt big on. It's growing on him though. Again, great job and can't wait for the next report!

:cheer2: Yay - FANTASTIC trip report!!! Woweekazowee, you guys did a LOT in just two days, I'm amazed. :worship:

Yay!!! Thanks for the great report. You guys were able to pack a LOT into a short vacation. I really enjoyed following along.

Yep, like folks have already said. It's AMAZING how much you do in such a short trip. I still haven't figured out how you slipped in those moments of relaxation. I think I'll send your schedule out to the engineers at NASA for analysis. It's too far over my head. :)

Thanks for the TR!

Wow!! You managed to fit a lot into a short stay and it sounds like you had a such a good time. Your pictures were great! I have to admit though, probably my most favorite parts of you TR were the times you mentioned that you spent a little time knitting . I am SO going to show this to my DH. He thought his wife was the only one who packs needles and yarn for vacation. :rotfl:

It's the random ice machines that make the difference. :rotfl:

Thanks so much, KFK!

I'll happily be your coaster partner if the opportunity ever arises. Poor DH is just not a coaster person.

The rental tent is very, very convenient. It wasn't pristine by any means, but it was clean and spacious and with everything open, had pretty good air flow (I think). I didn't think $34 for one night was that bad. It would've been cheaper for a night in a value with our pass discount once you add it to the cost of the site, but that wouldn't have been the Fort!

We're thinking of the Coleman Instant Tent for a starter tent for next year. :confused3

I think he liked it more than he wants to admit. Especially since he's moved up from "maybe a couple nights" right after we left to "a whole week? Sure, if I can get it off" when I asked again a few nights ago. pirate:

DH would probably prefer an RV (if we had somewhere to park one!), but I really liked the tent. On the other hand, it'd be nice to be able to bring the kitties along. As is, if we stay a week, we'll still have to come home a few times to check in on them.

I think my DH may agree with your DH on the tent part of things. He complained that I didn't blow the air mattress up enough. It was fine when I was laying on it to test, but with both of us, maybe not so much. Oops! So next time he gets to blow it up! :rotfl: He also said he would've preferred it to be a little cooler out. Maybe it will grow on both of them. :thumbsup2

We didn't ride many rides, so that might be why it seems like a lot. But next time I definitely want to relax more and spend more time just hanging back at the Fort! :lovestruc

Ha! I felt like I could've fit more in, but didn't want to push things or be late to ADRs (down side of the dining plan). And it was a very early start and a very late end. :)

Definitely not the only one! Vacation knitting is some of the best knitting I do! There is a whole group of knitting Disney fans on Ravelry (a knitting and crochet social media site), too. In the cooler months I like to knit on socks in line. :lovestruc But knitting at the Fort was the best! :cloud9:

WOW! I loved reading your trip report, and your pictures made me sooooo homesick for Fort! Thanks! We are going again in March and this time I hope to see more of the worlds in Epcot. Thanks for sharing you trip! And the ice machine pic made me laugh, you are super thorough! I Love it! great description on everything!
